A Forever Young TOP 20 Tournament

I was thinking of a new tournament. One that could validate FY's rankings. It would be a traditional top seed vs lower seed either single or double elimination bracket.

I know the main concern is getting people to play each other, and to draw this tournament out, we could do it week by week. So say in the first round, we would have R3D play K-dawg, Baton play Korean, Laika play Deadcows, Lady would play me, etc.. And that would be week one. The second round would see the winners play eachother and that would be week 2 and so fort.

I would be more than happy to draw up brackets for this. I think FY's ranking is accurate to an extent, but this gives us something to fall back on.

Now I'm sad because I'm at place 21. FY should add another player so we get an even number

We have had a couple of good tourneys before

A lot of players don't really play much 1v1, e.g. mrmot, hammer.

I may be biased because I am a much better 2v2 player but a lot of 1v1 tourney level matches are excruciating.

A classic example of this was when I was playing a boss in a tourney and killed 98.5m/100 and had no nukes left. The boss ground me down for 3.5h, refilling around the world many many times as they couldn't risk losing. It was a work night and by the end I was begging to concede. 2v2 tourney games can be relatively short and fun, honest.

King of the hill was pretty decent if I remember correctly. Apart from the usual flaw of people not being able to get together to play in time. But maybe you could argue that it wasn't a real tourney since only one person could be challenged to play

KOTH was great. Unfortunately, I was too noob and I didn't dare to join at this time.
It started with TUFT. Major fail, because of minor disputes. R3D's 1vs1 was horrible, too.

I agree. The last one was a complete joke. Unfortunately that is what happens when the only criterion for participating is saying "I'm in" in a forum thread".

Two things that we need are more rigid game schedules and concrete sanctions for people who sign up for a tourney and then refuse to play. It only takes a few of those players to completely ruin an otherwise successful tournament. Having a better defined schedule will give them less of an excuse as they will know what they are signing up for. Regarding sanctions, a month-or-so long ban on SFCON servers (definitely league, but maybe the pub ones too) might work.

I think a ban on the servers is a bit much, but if they refuse to play to just drop them out out of the top 20 completely.

Temporal ban seems a good idea, we need to find Senator first, and maybe convince him to give admin rights to somebody more active (and trustworthy).

Well KOTH gave a great opportunity for noobs, all you needed to become King was one good game (how do you think I ever managed it ). So maybe we could just reboot that? The original post with rules can be found here
