I have been watching the forums for quite a while and I have come to the main change that needs to be made to the game which is xander. Xander defends DEFCON with a vigour and fanatacism in the face of advertsity the likes of which I have never seen, denouncing all new ideas as noobish and living in a self deluded bubble of passworded server 2v2 elitism which frankly I estimate has reduced the defcon playerbase by up to 20%.

xander hasn't played a game of Defcon in years and was never very good when he did play (he admits that himself), therefore the "self deluded bubble of passworded server 2v2 elitism" doesn't apply to him in any form or fashion.

Also, xander is defending common sense more so than Defcon. That is, he simply explains, in most cases, that nearly every 'new' idea has been proposed many times before and the person posting the 'new' idea usually didn't do thier homework. There are also those time when he doesn't disagree with the idea being proposed, he simply points out the game would no longer be Defcon.

passworded server 2v2 elitism

Whats your problem with this, other then not belonging to it?
I am running passworded and the free SFCON ones. The passworded have features like pause, this would not work on the free ones.
The elitism you are moaning about is nothing more then players with relations aka community. Introduce yourself and show your trustworthy and you can be part of this "elitism".
Very bad start.

believe it or not people dont all play games for community. They don't play first person shooter to be a member of a 'clan' or do any of that. It's okay to be a casual player, you know. That's the attitude that really irritates me about defcon in particular, that is it not okay to be a regular player. And thats the issue im raising with this comical jab at xander :p

err, you said the community player is not ok, not the other way around.

EDIT: missed the comical part, sorry if i took it too serious.

I'm not sure anybody ever said it wasn't ok to be a casual player.

What we tell people is it's better to join the community if you desire higher quality games.

I have been reading the forums for a long time and while Xander does have a lot of good points to make, he gets them across with little elegance and often his responses seem insulting.

I kind of agree with what the OP is saying.
