how do you 'right click' and issue movement orders on a touch screen ?
Just curious. I personally think the iPad is a huge tech wank.
Not enough processing power as a laptop though it's only marginally more convenient to carry around.
No phone so you need to carry around an iphone or other tech wank gadget anyway.

I can see it as a useful coffee table gadget to browse the web when you're having a coffee and a biscuit but not when eating a cake as you wouldn't want all those sticky fingers going all over the screen. Speaking of which it's also no good to watch porn for the same reason ...

I type this from my couch, so your not far wrong In that respect. Right click could work by touching your unit, then tapping a second finger down, would work quite nicely.

I suspect your mind is already made up, give one a shot though before you write it off, it might surprise you yet.

Cheers

The iPhone and iPad can distinguish between two fingers down and one finger down. Thus, one right-clicks by using two fingers. Also, there is no reason that a right-click should be the one and only way to move a unit. On the iPad, a click-and-drag approach might work. That being said, I still think that the iPad/iPhone interface would suck for Defcon.

Alright, first off, how did the topic go from "DEFCON for the 360" to "DEFCON for iPhone/iPad/iPod touch?" Second off, I signed the petition AND shot Introversion an inquiry on their website. I definitely think that DEFCON for the 360 will happen, but Introversion is not going to make it so big that it will have it's announcement trailer be released one year in advance of the actual release of the game, like Halo Reach or Call of Duty Black Ops (which is going to suck). Just throwing my opinion out there, like the rest of you.

The topic never was "DEFCON for the 360", look at the thread title. D+ for the 360 was used as an example in between.

Defcon for the ipad might be a good idea if it can be easily ported. But they would have to dumb a couple of things down and streamline quite a bit as well. Probably must recode the "radar" as well, because Defcon has very poor framerates (for whatever reasons) when placing radar and/or in radar mode toggled. This will definitely not fly on the ipad.. probably crash the whole thing. Shaded oceans would have to go as well, replaced by the normal ocean. Radiation wouldn't even be an option, etc..

Well, I managed to play a game vs the CPU on my ipad, thanks to Splashtop (streams Windows from my pc to the ipad). It was ok, but a bit fiddly, and I couldn't work out how zoom in using the touchscreen :? so had to use a wireless mouse.
Ironically, the one game I really wanted to play on the ipad, Baldurs Gate 2, I couldn't get to work :x .

Edit: Yay! After faffing about a bit with resolutions etc, managed to get Baldurs Gate to run (in windowed mode!) though whether it was worth the effort is another thing entirely. Will have to dig some other old games up and see which ones are suited to the touchscreen...
