Weather Patterns

Postby Hyperion » Thu Jul 19, 2007 3:55 pm

I dunno :) was working last night and thought, wouldn't it be nice if defcon had weather patterns, maybe moving cloud formations over the globe, i started thinking of tactical ideas for this like not being able to see/target units in fog or heavy cloud areas, even lightening taking out aerial units if you ventured in too deep but then i thought blah, just some pretty cloud whisps flying over the globe slowly would do, maybe with a fake weather report or too for each continent...i would find this quite humourous myself...

e.g. USSR is losing a 3 player game and the weather system bot sees this score and pops in the chat box that it will be dark gloomy days over USSR followed by heavy rain and cold winds :D

Oooo or maybe even commentary bots  fixed with a large number of commentary comments directed at continents. Seeing how defcon is obviously a spectators game (nearly said sport, lol)

A commentator bot might be ok. It should no, must, be modeled after Zenon though. He's got the best and most consistently good commentary for any game I've ever seen.

"And now, here's Tom with the Weather!"
"Thanks Sheila. It'll be 300,000 degrees Celsius in downtown London today, with a windspeed of 160 mph and gusts up to 500..."

Come on, we all know we'd like this feature :D

Never seen this Zenon... read before that his commentary is apparently good though :)

It's not just good, it's great. Several people have suggested he work for a real news agency because of it.

If it is in any way realistic, it would kinda suck in a storm. *sigh* my entire air force is grounded.

Hm? The 300,000 C and 160 mph winds? Those are the conditions at the epicenter of a nuclear blast; the shockwave, iirc, travels as 500 mph. So yes, it certainly would ground one's airforce :)

of course if you have weather patterns...there would be upper level winds that would dictate the fallout pattern as well as the burst cloud ...eventually though in a massive global exchange the entire globe would get clouded over in a nuclear winter. This is where spy satelites could come in handy...
