I know this has been brought up - that the 2 for a kill and 1 for a save default scoring system means that decent players will not defend their cities.
With the (previosuly suggested) 1 for a kill, 1 for a save - how would game strategy change? Would players still sit in the middle of nowhere, or would they start defending? Have any beta testers played a game with this mode?
I sit with the "not defending your cities is exploiting poor balance" camp - it's just not cricket. There should be more reward for saving population to prevent this ever-more-popular tactic.

As a self proclaimed champion an early pioneer of the above mentioned stratagy (though I'm sure there are several on these boards who would agree that I have both a reputation and skill for it), I disagree with your assesment that it is "not cricket", and that it is at all exploiting (and when doen correctly, it requires more skill then any other stratagy, IMO).
However, that is not the point of this thread, so I will get back on topic. I don't think that it would change it a whole lot if it is a multi person game. Instead the best stratagy would then be to blitz two or three people at defcon 1, and try to rack up the points there. In that theory, you would need to rack up more kills then deaths, and since any skilled player would be able to pick off the highly concentrated areas (since they are mostly near water, and any protection is thus subject to being seen early on), you would be forced to go straight for kills.
While I would like to see the mode implemented, I don't think it would play sgnificantly differant from Genocide mode.
