Do Not Suggest Thread?

Postby Mesia » Mon Apr 16, 2007 10:05 pm

I've spent the last two days reading through the Think Tank here, and I'm coming to a conclusion: this forum is largely useless due to a lack of novel ideas. Just about everything that CAN be added to the game has been blasted by players who enjoy the simplistic, 1995 style gaming environment where the player directly controls every nuance of interface with drone like units. While I personally side with adding on acoutraments such as ground forces and a different interface style via mods loaded into the game (so that they can be played with as a novelty), I respect what people think of their thermonuclear solitaire. So why not let everyone know what's been brought up before? Add a stickied thread that details what's been suggested, and the common arguements for and against it and slap a 'READ THIS BEFORE POSTING' subtitle to it? The ground has been covered, no headway is being made... why not admit that and let us start feeling out other ideas that haven't been realized yet?

Sorry to make my first post in here; I know it's bad form for an internet forum. It's just that this seems... necessary.

The thing is, people rarely read the 'READ THIS BEFORE POSTING' thread. If people wanted to know what's been suggested a search or skim read would/should give a rough idea.

sometimes i think this game somehow like chess: it would be possible to add lots of more ideas - but the people like it as it is, and even though its easy to learn it has lots of strategies to be discovered and lerned.

Theats the recipe for the perfect game: easy to learn - hard to master.

If people like it as it is, why do they post here?

It seems that they are not content with playing the game as they like, but they feel they must compell everyone else to play it their way... sort of like religious fantatics.

I think it's a shame that the guys here who would like to see it er on the side of simulation get slapped down with "I don't want to play that" comments all the time... we are not suggesting changes to the core game, just the mods that we would like to see.

The rule of mods is simple - if you don't like it, don't play it... but that sadly is not enough, and so many ideas seem to just get killed as people get fed up of having their ideas bashed.

I remember all the bashing about the polar map... can't imagine why they bothered, but someone made one, and I mostly play on that - so those that don't like it don't use it and are happy, and I like it and use it, and I'm happy.

There is a difference between a mod (discussed in the mod section of the forum) and a suggestion for a game change (posted mostly here). When I read a thread in think tank I assume the changes are intended to go into the actual game, not a mod.

If you want a certain mod made, you ask for help or make it yourself. You don't around and say that's how the game was supposed to be made, which is what most people do.
