This game is really cool and i'm really surprised that i actually enjoy playing this demo even though there are no Hi Res 3D graphics.
Actually i wanted to play this game ever since WarGames came out but i never saw one.
But my complaint is that it does seem like a really advanced version of MISSILE COMMAND.
I came up with these ideas for game modes that maybe could be applied in an update, expansion or if there is ever a Defcon II.
What i would like is to be able to have Industrial Complexes that are the factories that supply military forces to the player.
These could be available in a new mode :GLOBAL STRATEGIC CONFLICT.
G.S.C would play over a very much larger view where you can now battle on the ground moving large armies across countries.
Engage in invasions of enemy coastlines and cities.
Nuclear Weapons would now include:
Battlefield Nuclear Artillery
Nuclear Armed Cruise Missiles [slower delivery time , harder to detect , lower yield]
Tactical Nuclear Missiles [medium range country to country]
Strategic Nuclear Missiles [long ranged continent to continent]
Player would have a maximum of about 30 Industrial Facilites that are supplying his or her forces.
This would include Shipyards for Naval Forces.
Aircraft Production for Airforces and Air Defence
Ballistic Missile Construct Facility for Advanced Nuclear Weapons including M.I.R.V upgrades.
Ground Support Factories for tanks and artillery.
Real World Weapon Systems:
Bombers would carry real weapons load so a B2 Bomber would carry 2 nuclear weapons but a B1 would carry 24 nuclear armed cruise missiles.
Carriers battle groups would have the same number of ships as in the real world and can carry up to 90 aircraft.
Warring countries units would have their real world names [Russian bombers would be labeled Backfire and Badger American bombers would be labeled B1 , B2 and B52 instead of just "bomber".
This would give the player the feeling of actually commanding current real world units.
Game would play on detailed maps [ but not 3D ] keeping the "WarGames" feel.
Another mode that could be explored would be an Aftermath Option.
Aftermath would be unique in that it is a gametype that unlike all RTS modes , it CANNOT be selected at the start of the game.
The way it would work is that after a game is over, Aftermath would check to see if there are any players with at least a population of 100,000 [ this amount can be changed in a option menu] and if there are would ask you "DO YOU WISH TO CONTINUE IN AFTERMATH ? ".
If you say yes, Aftermath would save your current settings and then apply a 5 to 30 year Peace Timeline to all warring countries.
The Peace Timeline is a period of no agression between warring countries.
Aftermath then would simulate what these countries and their forces would look like 5 to 30 years AFTER a global nuclear exchange and then start this game from that point.

If you've reached this conclusion I reckon you're not playing DefCon properly.
As for your other ideas fair enough, but there are dozens of games out there that do these things in one shape or other already, big budget, glitzy RTS games where you can build stuff and tank rush everyone.
Looks like there's a new one on its way soon...

DefCon doesn't have all the things you want to add because it doesn't need them...each unit in the game has strengths and weaknesses (a bit like chess pieces) and the point of DefCon is to manage your units better than your opponents. You get one shot at it...if you make a mess of it, you loose (again a bit like chess)...you can't go running back to base to build 100 more tanks and 1000 more infantry to get you back in the game.
