I was spectating and it occured to me that when you click radar it just shows a gray screen. Whats your guys opinion's on having it so spectators sees everyone's radar? I asked Weps and Dodger-Jesus-AnyOtherName he has and they liked it.
Someone mentioned you can cheat but.. spectators can see everyone's Moves menu where it shows where each unit is headed so whats wrong with radar?
I know every idea posted in here is denied so i won't be surprised if mine is too. Is there any post in here that had a majority of people liking it and it actually being incorporated into the game?
Anyways whats your guys opinion on Spectators seeing every players radar?
Good - yes? Bad - no?

i like it, i was actually surprised when i noticed you can watch everyone's orders but not radar. it would actually be quite neat to be able to know what everyone can see or not see, i don't see how you could cheat any more than spectators could already cheat.
an idea to stop that here
an idea to stop that here
It's not so much cheating that gets to me but theres a lot you can learn spectating, i learn quite a few new strategies from just spectating people. Its a very useful tool and i'd like to expand that tool in every aspect possible without hurting the players game. I just don't like how easy it is to abuse those tools also.
Therefore zkl's right, he made a good comment about letting spectators have the ability to talk on private channel. It lets them express this tension build-up privately to another spectator!

Yes, but they should be forced to use that IM program. Defcon should not make it easier to cheat. Specs should not be allowed to talk one-on-one with any player. That makes it far too easy to cheat. It may not be that much harder to fire up an IM client, but it is harder.

I agree only public chat for spectators.
One of the first games i played that included spectators i became quite frustrated my the guy giving little hints to me and my opponent constantly i.e. "I would do that if i were you", "better watch out for the north east", "if you only knew what was coming your way"...ect. When i asked him to stop he did but then started rambling on and on about strategys, homework, mommy and daddy...ect. Since i was the server i kept asking how do i kick this guy? noone had an answer because apperently there is no way to kick these annoyances.
I'd like to see some kind of kick vote for spectators or even players (say the player has already lost and decides to stick around to ruin the game for everyone else).
Now this has only happened a couple times and i'd like say that the defcon community is for the most part quite respectable, but as the game becomes more popular the potiential for immaturity will grow.

With the caveat that specs should be able to go private with other specs, I agree. Right now, specs can either chat publicly, or chat privately, but can't do both in the same game, as it is controlled as a server option. I think that specs should be able to chat privately in the same way that player can communicate with their alliance, and should also be able to chat publicly. Under no circumstances should specs and players be able to chat privately.

There is no way to kick any player from the game, spec or otherwise. I think it should be possible to kick specs. However, I do not think that it should be possible to kick players. The reasons for this are numerous, and I have pontificated on them before. The short of it is that a host-kick or vote-kick system creates more problems than it solves. Imagine if griefers could kick players, rather than force them to stick to 1x? I think that would be worse...

Anyways, that's would i would like too. So you can chat with all players, and still be able to comment on the game without players seeing it.
thats what i ment.
You brought up another point about players xander, what if there is one guy who decides to make the game unplayable for eveyone else by keeping it at 1x the whole time?

You're right, but if people are going to cheat, they're going to cheat, no two ways about it. We can't stop players from using IM programs to communicate and cheat with each other, and if people really want to cheat to win, they'll do it anyway.

That's like saying there should be no laws because people are going to break them anyway.
The question isn't about cheating, the question is about making it harder. If they want to cheat then they'll need an IM, but then most will need to alt-tab out of defon and back again, unless they get a microphone and use voice chat.
Either way, it makes it harder to cheat that simply allow someone to tell him - 6 subs going your way. Many will question if it's worth the work. We can stop the true cheaters, but the can discourage the potential ones.

A game at 1x isn't unplayable, it is just slow. A game from which you have been vote-kicked is unplayable. I would rather have a griefer drop the speed to 1x, giving me the option to either continue to play or quit than have a greifer kick me from the game, thus removing the choice from me. Again, I have not claimed that someone dropping the speed to 1x in order to annoy is a good thing, or that it should be encouraged. I am merely pointing out that it is better than being kicked.
