Ejecting
I think that if a plane is shot down withen it's combat range of an enemy airfield, that there should be a chance that the pilot can eject and steal an enemy plane. Since every side has the same aircraft it wouldn'tbe too hard for the pilot to figure out the controls. Since we don't want htis happening all the time, it could be set to happen only about 30-50% of the time. I think it would add a whole new tactical aspect to the game.
However, the rest of the time pilots should be captured, and this would be counted in your score (pilots shot down over water withen comabt range of an enemy ship would automatically be captured). That way there is incentive to not get your planes shot down.
I am a genius.

First thing : the planes are not the same, it's just the plane icon that is the same. URSS and USA did not shared the shemes of theirs millitary planes during the cold war, i think.
Second thing : When a pilot ejects, he is spotted due to this huge white thing he uses to avoid falling (I can't figure out how it's called in english, sorry, but i bet you understood what i was talking about), so everybody knows where he's gonna fall, and he will porbably get cought by civillian population.
Third thing : I dont think that a single guy, with no fire arms (or maybe a hand gun, but i don't think that pilots are carrying weapons), could get inside a millitary airport, get inside a warplane, stay inside enough time to start up its engine, and then lift off without being shot down.
Well, defcon is not a realistic game, that's true, but... Let's keep it *looking* like it's realistic.

It's a parachute

I must admit, I was laughing when I wrote my initial post, I thought it was pretty funny. But, I laughed much harder when I realized that you actually thought I was serious, and took the time to try and shoot down a joke. Kudos!

The idea was that they would parachute down, then steal the plane as it sat on the tarmac.

Pah! Don't do things in halves. You want to steal a plane, steal it in flight! Just like Balmoral Bombers in Crimson Skies.
