Animated Day - Night map

Postby tc_zero » Tue Oct 10, 2006 3:27 am

If the map were to be satalite images of the Earth during the night and day. The map could of course be half day and half night but it would be interesting if it were updated in real time. This post should probably go in mods but its an idea none the less.

Actually, that could be done very simply. If Land1 & Land2 along with Water1 & Water2 could be set to change with time and not with deaths, you could set up your own daytime colors and nighttime colors.

I like it alot! I have a program called Desktop Earth that does it realistic for my wallpaper.

It will probably make too much clutter, but I still like my colour changes with deaths, but a map1,2,3,4 would be overkill...

Another though is that it takes a snapshot of the current sun position and then alter it with gametime.

It would clash with the aesthetics and style of the game, in fact it would ruin the whole game. Satellite footage? Please, don't.

Yes, please don't add this feature!

This would actually be pretty cool if you did it right. Make it so little tiny lights come on in the big cities, but the overall area gets darker. When it is day the city lights are off but the over all area is brighter. You don't have to change any of the game's art.

the whole point of the interface is to be simple

it would be an interesting distraction, but does it have a definate impact on gameplay?

If so, is it simple enough not to detract from the simple nature of Defcon?

The answer is no, simply.

The gameplay answer is players would want to have a location most advantageous to them, and would likely drop or quit if they don't have those spaces.

The historical answer is, when it came to nuclear warfare, everyone was on the watch, and patrols were round the clock. When the call came, everyone was prepared to do what they had to in atomic warfare.

Actually, if it's optional and wouldn't require excessive work to accomplish, the answer should be work.

It will be client side I am guessing so it shouldn't worry anyone else what you do with it. If you want your game to go from noon to night over the course of the game, it shouldn't be a problem. It already changes colors when your population dies.
