Basic Modding Tutorial [Alpha 24]
Here's a tutorial on the basics of modding in alpha 24. This does not go deeply into scripting but can serve as a base. I accidentally forgot to show the research and reform programs, but they work exactly as one would expect.
The video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j07dwfAocKo
The mod created here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=309227545
Also, to actually export your mod to the steam workshop, all you have to do is go into the Menu > Extras > Mods > Click your mod > Click publish.
If you need to install a mod without using Steam, you'll need to download the mod by some other means and place the files directly into where your mods folder is located just as seen in the structure for making the mod.

If you figure out how to do a working job lemme know
Shameless plug here, to understand Lua better, go watch these tutorials, i originally created them to make HoN-AI more approachable, but its held very basic, so its 100% applicable to PA:

What do you mean a working job? The tutorial/mod I posted here has jobs that function exactly as intended.
Thanks for the LUA reference. It'll probably help someone.

Good stuff. However, I'd suggest you hide your Steam User name from the Steam client. It is a piece of information that is known only to you, and showing it on the video somewhat compromises account security.
Just a heads up!
Cheers!

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure of the best way to hide it without editing the video and re-uploading it. Meh.. It's linked to my computer specifically, so I think I'll be ok.

A couple of requests/suggestions for future tutorials:
Ppl are scared if they see length 15min+, they proably not watching.
If you do, have time codes in the description (or captions in the video) to allow ppl to jump to what they want to look at. (fe "8:00 Naked Lady" )
Fix your microphone... or fan or whatever is creating that high pitched noise in the background.
Also add the links you are refering to into the descripton as well (and/or as caption).
I liked that you used n++ for lua for coloring and formatting.
I also honestly missed some structure, fe. you show how to look at PA files (extracting the main) in the middle of the video, this should have been one of the first things (which pathes and files are relevant and how they are loaded into the game). This could have actually been a seperate tutorial all together (thus making your overlength video shorter
).
I dont know about that steam-name thingy but it sounds very reasonable

Yeah, I just wanted to get all of the basics in.. it just had to take 20 minutes it seems. I still left out quite a lot and skimmed over some topics.
I can add the captions now (or later when I'm done messing around with other stuff.)
The microphone is crap. It's really for an X-Box despite it saying on the box that it would work with the PC. Yeah, it "works", but emits that loud noise that I can't do anything about. =/
Yup, same as the captions.. I'll add those in.
I didn't want to get too involved with the main.dat folder because it doesn't actually apply too much if you have another mod to base off of anyway. If you get the understanding of the format of the mod and how the .txt files work, it should all sort of fall together without the main. Talking about that more would've just added onto time.

It's what I get for getting something meant to be used on something as inferior as a console.
I might be interested in that after they get a patch or two out.

Is there any way of seeing the Steamcommunity site in a language other than (what looks like) Dutch?

Top right, click on your username. Should drop a menu down, hover mouse over "change language."

Re: Basic Modding Tutorial [Alpha 24]
Ok another question. It says subscribe to download. Clicking that seems to do something on the Steam server but doesn't download a file. I have a steam account and I am logged in. I don't however use Steam to download Prison Architect. How do I actually get my hands on this mod as a file to look at?
Re: Basic Modding Tutorial [Alpha 24]
Subscribing should do that, go check if the mod is already aviable ingame, if not try a steam restart.
Steam has to do this automaticly, i wouldnt know that u can force/invoke the download. (in downloads its often merely labled as "Workshop Content")
