Has Defcon been Nuked?

It's been a while since I've been to the forum here, but I had no idea it had been virtually abandoned by everyone else. I've gone through some of the more recent posts and it's sad to see newcomers looking for resources that are no longer to be found. Like they have said, most of the links around here are dead. Another sign of decay are the posts that get hundreds of views but no responses. Doesn't anyone care? So it seems to me that Defcon itself has finally been nuked out of existence. Such a shame.

In my attempt to see what was still available for Defcon online, I came across these links:

http://mafiascum.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=15082
http://mafiascum.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=15778

Anyone know anything about this? Is that where everyone from here has disappeared to? I certainly hope not. I truly hope I am wrong about all of this, that people still care about this game because I certainly do. Please don't let all the hard work that's been put into this game simply vanish away. This is a call to action. Anyone with me?

There are definitely people still playing so don't worry.

How so? My main concern is that most of the mods for Defcon are no longer available. Links point to download sites that don't host the files anymore. Zanzer's Modlist site has been down for however long now - so all the mods there and even the modding tools are no longer available - any newcomers asking for this stuff seem to be out of luck. How is that encouraging further development of new mods for Defcon? Am I missing something here? Requests have already been made to host these things on another site, but they seem to have fallen on deaf ears. Since this is the spot for mods, where else should this go? Or do you mean it's the wrong spot for this, because nobody comes here? I wonder why...

I'm aware that it's possible to edit things without the modsuite, but if you have a tool to make things easier - why not use it?
As you've suggested, I've sent both a PM and e-mail to zanzer7/zach.

Well if anyone is following this thread to see what happens, here's an update - so far there has been no response. Like I said before - there have already been inquiries from others, that have gone unanswered. So I guess you can add mine to the pile now.

If anyone else is interested in keeping the mods for Defcon alive, this is what I had proposed to zanzer7. To take whatever files are still lying around and put them up on one account on 4shared.com. Personally I find this site to be better then say Mediafire, Megaupload, Hotfile and all the others out there. There aren't tons of ads to sift through, all the files can be accessed from one area, and files aren't deleted after a period of inactivity (as far as I know). Sure it's nice to have a site with screenshots and descriptions, but it's not absolutely necessary. If zanzer7 no longer wants to host these files for whatever reason, then isn't this a good alternative? I would rather see this stuff online for people to use and enjoy, then for people to say "Oh yeah, I use to have a copy lying around here somewhere and then my hard drive crashed... maybe if you ask around someone else has....."

If no one is interested, then fine... but I won't be surprised if in a couple of years the forum isn't here anymore.

I figure that with the current "Humble Introversion Bundle" sale, you're not the only one wondering about this. (Hey, it's where I got the game, after all.)

I'm sure after the big Introversion bundle, Defcon got it's amount of players bounding back up again.

It's great to see new players because I think it's just what Defcon needs - a "shot in the arm", so to speak. It seems like it's on life-support at the moment. New players could mean new mods for it as well, which is in short supply these days. But as for all the mods that have already been made, to extend it's "game-life", good luck finding most of it.

Maybe now that there's more people around here to play Defcon, if enough of us ask we will get some kind of a response - as to "where are all the mods for Defcon?", and assuming they are still lying around somewhere - "why aren't they made available to the players of Defcon?" Is that such an unreasonable request?

There is no way Defcon is dying. I bought it with the Humble Bundle, and I love it. If you look on the HB website, it has 121,781 purchases. About half of those or 1/4 of those might join the community of Introversion, like I did. So Defcon and Introversion games will not die anytime soon with the new flood of community members and purchases.
