Creating New Mod from Existing Mod

Postby nal2us2 » Thu Sep 11, 2014 4:18 pm

Good day all.

I have a quick question as I am new to the world of Defcon and Defcon Mods.
I have played around with a few of these mods and have developed a new mod which takes the best of some other mods already in existence.
Before playing this Mod do I need to get any special permission from the administrator as I dont want to step on other peoples toes.

Please advise
Nick

As introversion does not neccessairly (sp?) run anything besides the meta server, you can do whatever you want with your own private or dedicated servers. Also if you have public access to the mods then do what you will with them. Not really any copyright laws to worry about.

Hope this helps,

Cheers

Oh that is a tremendous help. I do appreciate the quick feedback. I have an exciting revision I have made to the Modern Warfare 5.0 Mod. Based on what you said I will finish coding tonight and allow my friends to use it as well. I just REALLY wanted to make sure that was ok first. Thank you.

One Last question...... Can I upload this mod to all registered users of Defcon such as myself? And if so, how do I do that? I now call it Modern Warfare 5.01 and in the information file I left the original creators name there and only put my name in as the "modifier".
Please advise again, as I dont want to step on the toes of my fellow players.

Thank you

Also will there be any copyright issues using the sound files already used in the other mods as it appears that those are not public domain. Has permission already been granted to use those music files? i.e. the opening score for the Reptoid Invasion? Sounds like something from Rainbow 6. Just want to make sure again, so I am not in violation. Thank you

I don't think anyone cares, unless you intend to gain profit from that.

Yeah, I am giving it freely as someone who is very passionate about improving on an already AWESOME Game. Ok. That being said, if anyone reading this knows of any copyright violations please tell me and I will remove the Mod immediately. ETA will about 24 to 48 hours. Please provide any CONSTRUCTIVE Comments after I upload 5.01

Hey
Maybe you should give the mod you are making a different name, instead of changing an other ones work and giving it a higher version number. That probably would show some respect to the original author beyond copyright laws.

Good Point. Will do. Didnt even cross my mind. Very sorry to the originator of Modern Warfare. Yeah, you are right. That would have been very unprofessional. Will do. Thank you very much for your input on that

I think I will call the new Mod - " Best Of All Mods Combo Pack" Is that something that sounds ok or am I off of the mark here?
Any thoughts everyone?

Well the best of all mods are the ones that can be used amongst everyone, without altering the game majorly. ROFLmod is a good one for instance that I use. Modern Warfare I believe alters it to where everyone needs the mod to play the game, where as ROFLmod doesn't.

Ok, It will be "WOPR Strategy and Tactics 2014" then if no one has any objections.

Just to update everyone..... I made great progress last night and am about 80% done.
The only major problem I am having now is that when running the MOD, the program crashes randomly with what looks like a sound related issue but cant be sure.
I am currently running the game on Windows 7 so if anyone can point me in the right direction here that will definitely speed up the process of pushing this MOD to Alpha-Release Status.
