Well, when I cannot connect or see the "playback" listed it's because I'm a work.

Here you go...

When you open the recording file, a '.dcrec' file, a dialog box such as this should open...

Image

Because I'm at work and everything is blocked, I don't see the normal screen but it does give me a ServerLANIP with which I can then go here...

Image

... and type in and connect. If you are connected, not blocked, and follow the proper steps, "Playback" should appear in the server list and you can just join it like a normal server. I didn't notice an explicative in one of the server name so I covered it up for the kiddies...

I've been out of the DEFCON loop nearly all summer, and I notice that almost all of the servers online are just dedicated servers, and none of them seem to be 6 player except for the Totally Random mode.

Does anyone here have a 6 player Diplomacy dedicated server up? I didn't see one last night, in progress or otherwise. It all looked like 1v1 and that 6 player Totally Random. While Totally Random is interesting, I hate playing it. It's just too silly. I prefer (more or less) realistic city placements and populations, which is actually the main reason I got DEFCON in the first place, because it used real cities in their real locations with slightly realistic populations (in most cases).

There is a diplomacy server up when you tell it to :) You should still have the admin password for the TotallyRandom server (if you haven't, pm me a new one), and some simplifications have been made to the way you can change the configuration: http://dedcon.homelinux.net:8000/dedcon ... andomAdmin

bert, i think ur slowdown budget is a little harsh, it just lost me a game, how about upping the amount of time allowed, also some players request for speed 4 all the time during a game, and if i request speed 2, then it will still chew my budget up :( . Apart from that, gr8 work bert, keep it up

It certainly is! I run out of budget every single game. For 1vs1 games, you can evade to the Duel servers, they don't have a slowdown budget. Password is murof.

Odd, that may mean the communication with the metaserver produced something entirely unexpected that causes the program to exit. Could you try running plain DedCon from a console window/dos box? To do so, press the Start/Windows Menu button, select "Run program" (or similar), type in "cmd". This should open the console. Then, if DedCon is installed into the default location, type

Code: Select all

cd "C:\Program Files\DedCon"
.\dedcon
and paste the output here.

So that password you sent me has not changed at all, just the way to change the game mode? Sounds good to me. So to change to Diplomacy I would do:

/include default
/include diplomacy

Or does default and diplomacy need to be in brackets?

Thanks.

Precisely that. And to log in, you have to be named PsychicKid and say "/login <password>" just as before (the name requirement is new).

Well, that looks normal. Next test, put the .dcrec recording into the DedCon installation directory and start DedCon with

Code: Select all

cd "C:\Program Files\DedCon"
.\dedcon -l <fileame of the recording>
and paste the output here.

I can't seem to get recordings to playback. I open the file and after it loads the C:\ jargon it says 'invalid' (excuse my know nothing about DOS speak) A server seems to load, I think it does because it says 'Dedicated game server' in green, but no 'playback server' is this because I'm a demo player? or maybe because I'm logged on as a guest on my computer?

Try it again with a recording that is actually there, please? :)

Player7: I don't think I understand what you're doing and what the 'invalid' thing may be, could you post a screenshot of what you do to open the recording and the error message (pasting the text suffices)? Indeed, the appearance of "Dedicated Game Server" suggests that a server is started, but without a playback. Yes, being a guest with limited write rights may have something to do with it.
