You could run the cities and border coordinates, which come as longitude/latitude, through a simple transformation. According to Wikipedia, you set the new y value to .5*ln((1+sin(y))/(1-sin(y))). You'll be facing a bit of trouble there, though: the mercator y range is higher than the longitude/latitude range (infinite, to be precise), so in order to fit it on the screen, you'll probably have to scale it down. Which defeats the purpose of the Mercator projection if you ask me.

Yes in mercator projection you have to throw away the poles.

I see a potential problem in the aspect ratio. The orginal map has an aspect ratio of 9:5 (360:200) and i have doubts you can chance that.

However you could try to just cut away every coordinates with -100 < y < 100 after the transformation. But it will destroy greenland and some arctic islands.

How about WarGames: The Dead Code? It's the sequel to WarGames.

How about we just stick to Defcon on the Defcon forum?

First post eerily both on and off topic? Spambot. frank: prove me wrong if you can.

Well, I saw him online with the "Online Members" section. I didn't see him browsing this section when I replied, but after I did I saw him browsing this section.

Would a spambot do the same?

Okay, I'm sure this has probably been answered dozens of times, but...

I'm getting runtime errors when I try to compose my own sounds for DEFCON. I know the format is .ogg, but is there something I'm failing to do when I'm converting the sound file? I mean, I was able to successfully produce a new enemylaunch2.ogg sound file by editing and modifying the original as I saw fit. But now that I'm trying to make a new defconstage.ogg file from the movie WarGames, I have to separate the audio file from the video file, then convert it to an mp3 file, then compress it, and finally convert it to .ogg format. Is there something in the process of conversions that is causing the run time error? If so, is there a way to fix it?

-Thanks,

Dave

You need to make sure that the formatting is the same---same sample rate, same compression settings, &c. While I haven't done much Defcon modding, and what little I did was years ago, I do seem to remember having some trouble with the sound files. Ultimately, I think that my problem was that I had stereo tracks that should have been mono. So, again, just check everything, and make sure it is the same as the originals.

Okay, just for the sake of being obsessive to the nth degree...

Did anyone else notice that the generic symbol for the SAC long range bomber bases were equilateral triangles on the Big Boards?

Just sayin'...

Hi folks,

Great development process here, congrats to all involved. Any chance of someone re-uping the download files for the Wargames Mod? All the linked versions are broken at the moment. If someone could even PM it to me I'd be very grateful.

Cheers

Hi! I just recently downloaded this mod. It is excellent! Here is the link to the website where WarGames mod is still very much active, plus a few other mods.
