Noob to modding I have a question?
Ok I have been messing around with the main dat. file to see if I could increase the number of silos ingame. I would really like to have a few more silos than the standard ingame allotment.
I canged the world scale maximum to 400 and the variable counters to 2 and the max population to 600. I started the game and the screen went blurry and crashed my computer.
I would very much like to change the number of Silos available and If anyone knows how. Please let me know.
I do not need a million silos but atleast 2, 6, or 8 more should do.
I also have steam.
Thanks guys!

It isn't (currently) possible to change anything other than the map, unit graphics, sound or text. So you cannot add more silos.
This is probably because you can't change the maximum/minimum limit (which seem to be coded into the system) all you can do is change the default (As long as it is between the maximum and minimum). You need to change alot more than just the gameoptions file , for what you want to do, which currently isn't possible and probably won't be.

Geesh, chill. Try reading the forums as this has been answered many times already.
When creating a game do the following:
- Change GameMode to Custom
- Go to Advanced Options and change:
- TerritoriesPerTeam: 5
- VariableUnitCount: Enabled
- WorldScale: 200
- Give yourself 5 territories
- Add an AI
(Note: Its not strictly necessary to use 5 territories but it will give you a lot more credits than having a single one)
If you REALLY want to change the options via a file then you could make the following amendments to gameoptions.txt:
Code: Select all
GameMode 0 6 6 0
Default
Office Mode
Speed Defcon
Diplomacy
BigWorld
Tournament
Custom
Code: Select all
TerritoriesPerTeam 1 6 5 1
Code: Select all
VariableUnitCounts 0 1 1 0
Disabled
Enabled
Code: Select all
WorldScale 50 200 200 1
NOTE: I wouldn't recommend doing these changes as I think they could cause adverse problems when it comes to hosting a game against non-AI players.
NOTE2: As Mr_Monday stated, the reason your changes didn't work was because you failed to abide to the file's clearly documented maximum and minimum allowable values.
Alternatively, do a Google search for memory editors. It may take quite a bit of research but its possible to change the number of you units you have within a game by alterating the memory. However, don't bother trying this if you plan to cheat in a multiplayer game as it will only cause sync problems.
This does not work for me! when I try to start the game it counts down from 5 and freezes! What now! I tried it both ways and no luck!
Also when i change the files my game will not even boot up. It says it has trouble finding some english file. Very strange
IV please add a way to have more silos on a large map! Please!
