Star Wars like map???

Hello

Anybody tought about creating a starwars-like mod...Doesn't need to be starwars, but I guess you know what I mean.
Off course the continents would be clusters of planets in the galaxy. Could we make these clusters rotate against one another???...So there could be a better time to launch an attack towards another system because your closer or better protected? Don't know if this is possible with the DEFCON engine. It would create another strategic parameter ;)
Anyway how do you people feel about this idea???

Just let me know...

In the meantime, have a happy genocide :)

I believe that there is a group working on a space themed mod, if that floats your boat. The mod that you suggest is a fine idea, though there is one problem: I notice that you have assigned different units to each team. In Defcon, this is not currently possible. You can sort of fake it by coloring the sprites properly, but you can't really make it work, because a person might defect, or something similar.

Modulo Xander's comments, this shouldn't be too hard. If you decide you'd like to attempt this, I'd be happy to draw some unit graphics. And the Star Wars movies are right there waiting to have their sound FX sampled. ^_^

It would be really cool to have the planets be space battle stations, a la Death Star, that could *maneuver* -- but it sounds like that's way outside the present scope of things that can be modded. For now we'll have to file that with all the other good but presently technically nonfeasible possibilities, like spysats.

Obviously, the subs are Death Stars. Submerged: moon. Surfaced: space station!@!

But then we'd need actual moons that didn't turn into Death Stars, that just bobbled around in the inky void sucking up your enemy's attention and nukes. :)

For this and a billion other reasons, it is gonna be so cool if/when units can finally be added to Defcon. 95% of the new units will be frivolous, game-balance-destroying, or both, but I can't help looking forward to the 5% that will really extend the game...

I allready tought the different units would be a problem. Altough it is almost a necessity...rebels fly different type of spacecraft than the empire. Off course there could be other factions, like pirates, mercenaries, diplomats, whatever....
And I like the idea about the death star being a 'squadron' of subs.
-Altough the rebels don't have a deathstar-
All the other units can stay like they are:
super star destroyer= carrier
star destroyer= battle ship
airfield= base
silo= ion canon
radar= radar

and about the rotating planetary-system...it could be cool but it's not a necessity.
I hope it will be possible to implement these different kinds of units. Altough they don't differ in firepower. Its important that rebels fly X-wings and the empire TIE-fighters...otherwise it would ruin the starwars-experience.

To bad this will keep this mod from lift off...for the moment ;)
I'll check and try some things tomorrow...I'm taking a day off

Right now I am currently working on a star wars mod and I am just waiting for permission to use some models from spacemonkey (ships) but I have created a new Nuke (proton nuke) and new fighters and bombers (X-wings and Y-wings) as well as the silo (MPNL mobile proton nuke launcher)Image[/url]ImageImage
