I'm not skilled enough in the technical aspects of modding to be able to pull this off myself (or even begin to), but has anyone given consideration to the idea of an "old world" civilizations mod? I'm talking about classical Greece, Rome, Persia, Carthage, and the like. Territory lines will have to be historically inaccurate since all these different civilizations overlapped borders at some point... but then again, archaeologists haven't excavated any ancient missile silos(!), and it's pretty hard to rack up megadeaths when the cities' populations measured in the thousands.
Ideas for territories: Persia (including the east coast of the Mediterranean), Egypt, Carthage, Greece and Macedonia, Rome... Any other suggestions? Russia could be counted as Mongol territory, if there were no choice but to put it on the map for scaling's sake. You could also focus the game exclusively on Greece, Rome, and Turkey. Form a Greek alliance to nuke Troy (screw getting Helen back, let's nuke that two-timing bitch!), and then get mown down when the Romans jack everything!
I think this could be pretty awesome. The Mediterranean would be an absolutely ridiculous battleground though, so it may present a playability problem - or be highly enjoyable, depending on how frantic you like your gameplay to be.
Any other takers out there? If there's a skilled modder out there who'll take this up, I'd be a happy camper.
Is anyone making an ancient civilizations mod?

All's well that ends well... and when the nukes start falling, nothing ends well.
Easy enough to do I reckon, if you don't have any large oceanic gaps, then just make nukes trebuchets and rocks downgrade all of the units and weaponry to this civil age.
The modding is easier than you think, I reckon you could do atleast some of it, will help you learn it too for future reference. We're all here to help

Hah, temples and thunderbolts. That's awesome.
But yes, I was considering the wraparound problem and was hoping there would be a way to stop it. Is there any option to disable wrapping? If there isn't, I suppose one could make the map big enough overall that all nuke trajectories would be confined to the general region of the Mediterranean and its surrounding land masses.
I'll look into what it takes to create a mod. I have only a pale knowledge of programming, so if that is required I'd need some assistance. But I'll do what I can on my own. I'll start working when I've gotten more feedback (and my damn midterm tests and projects are finished... arrgh!).

Idea:
Use Tapestry Texture from here To Colour Land mass, and give the same texture a deep dark blue hue for water.
What will give a very Medevilly Feel. I think.

Or the blacks and oranges from a Greek amphora.
