GAH!

The moment I read that, I heard the Dune theme from the Lynch movie.

If someone makes the map, I'll see if I Can come up with some interesting icons, for sure.

....and as for the reason why I haven't done anything....well....women.

The trouble is, Arrakis has very little water. We could turn "water" into "sand" though, and have sandworms and things like that :)

My girlfriend hates the arrival of new Introversion games. When Darwinia came out, I was a loner for about 2 weeks. So, yeah, I'm making this mod slooowly :P

Okay, me, Useful Dave and TheDan just tried out a quick (read: slow) match with one AI-controlled opponent.

me - Eastasia
Useful Dave - Oceania
TheDan - Disputed Territory
(CPU - Eurasia)

The final scores:

Having played several games against AI, I was probably at an advantage, as I knew a lot of probable attack options.

A quick run-down of the match is as follows (subject to memory loss):
(NOTE: We are playing Survivor here, all other settings default)
Start.
Oceania's subs all get shot down due to some unlucky positioning.
Oceania's main cities go down one by one to many small concentrated attacks.
The silly bits (southern India, Great Britain, et al) which are in poor positions sustain terrible injuries.
By this time, Oceania may as well be out.
Eastasia starts to bomb its two closest neighbours.
The Disputed Territory systematically destroys every single Eurasian silo.
As a result, most of Eastasia's (and quite a lot of Disputed) nukes head for Eurasia, wiping them from the map.
Meanwhile, Eastasia starts to suffer horrific losses at the hands of both Oceania and the Disputed territory.
...
Fin.

Some useful comments and suggestions:
-Split Oceania into two territories
-Give the silly bit of India to Eastasia
-Give some more sea territory to the Disputed area around Australasia and the Indian Ocean
-Spread out the cities around the world (apart from Oceania, which is too spread out already)

I'd like to try again with all human players, as we weren't able to test alliances at all; I'd also like to give it a go with more cities and population for each territory.

Thanks to Useful Dave and TheDan for trying this out with me; I will be trying out some of the changes soon!

Just thought I'd keep everyone updated, so I've cleaned up the original post and put up the latest screenshots.

For those too lazy to go read:

Wow, that's amazing work! I especially like the Rocket Bombs. Simple, yet so perfect.

Excellent work guys.

Did you test this with the new 1.2 beta mod support? I ask because its very usefull feedback to us at Introversion to know that the new mod system has actually worked "in the wild". Did you run into any problems etc?

Thanks for taking an interest :D (and making the game)

It doesn't appear to like the file english.txt; I load the game, activate the mod, start the game and it still has all the original text. I've tried restarting Defcon and activating and de-activating the mod in various combinations, but to no avail.

I've uploaded the latest WIP version of my mod; if anyone spots any obvious mistakes then let me know! :)

Let me first say I don't think you should change a thing. I think it's great. But for those who care to know:

SPOILER ALERT

In 1984, the whole war is a lie spread by the Inner Party. Goldstein's book was written by the Inner Party. If you recall, Obrien was one of the writers. And it is the Inner Party that is bombing the proles. Consequently, we really don't know for sure the status of the rest of the world, but what I took from it was that they were under Big Brother's control, too. But I guess this mod could be the war that the Inner Party wants us to think is happening (even though it wasn't nuclear).

SPOILER OVER

SPOILER ALERT

I agree that it is impossible to actually know what was really going on in the world in Orwell's mind. But this is, roughly at least, how the Book portrays world events, and that's good enough for me. :)

END SPOILER

Thanks for the support, anyway. I've updated the mod file so that it doesn't totally break Defcon's ability to load mods - sorry guys..

Please test this! I wanna see servers running this! It's good for helping test the new beta patch, too.

You do relize in the book that ocenia don't exstict don't you, and Britain is ocenia a territory in dispute itself and therefore changes alliances to whoever is more advantage at the time leaving a know about of two world powers(any other dont matter, there not in the book because Winston don't know about them).

It's all open to interpretation, and I've decided to go with what the Book says. (Having said that, I should really go back and read it again.) I think it's gonna be more fun this way though ;)
