This website here
http://rimmer.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/coast/getcoast.html

allows you to extract the data points of any coastline, it's pretty easy to use, just input the latitude and longitude (or use the Java map thing), and it gives a data file of all the coastlines in the same format that is used in Defcon.

this website has some info on how it works to http://www.bigelow.org/virtual/handson/coastline.html

However, at the moment, the data file it gives contains far to many points, maybe someone will be able to write a program which would reduce the number of data points to be about the same as what is used in defcon.

Another good website is this one http://www.citypopulation.de/cities.html
it has the populations and locations of any city in the world
