Tool: DEFCON CityPlacer

Postby zach » Wed Oct 04, 2006 11:14 pm

DEFCON CityPlacer
Yes, another stupidly simple tool to ease your modding experience

This tool is very simple to understand:
You get a map, and when you click on it, you're prompted for a City name, Country, and population count ... at least that's what I think it is

If you already have a 'cities.dat' file in the 'data\earth' folder, the tool just appends to this file. Else it creates a new 'cities.dat'-file.

After you've added what you want, boot up Defcon and ... look!

Keep in mind this application is very simple, and it only specifies coordinates as integers. It's meant as a tool to ease city placing (duh) until there's a Map Editor available

Updates
Update 5th of October: now able to load external maps, making the tool exponentially more useful, I think :P

Enjoy :)

You lazy bugger. You just copy&pasted from your previous post. You didn't even bother change the name of the download link. :P

You rock :D

A zoomable map would be nice for those close to coast locations :p

Very nice :) Your utilities are wonderful! This is exactly what i've needed for my mod in progress (also a map maker sort of tool :)) Thank you for your endless contributions to the defcon modding community!

Good going zanzer, a nice little tool you’ve made. Can I request one feature though… The option to import your own map (simply a *bmp file) in the background instead of the default earth map, with this feature it would be incredibly useful! But great stuff anyway!

Hah, I wasn't the only one who noticed? :P

Why type in again? I type enough as it is already without having to write something as trivial as download link headers again and again ~ Manual of style ;)

Well ... I could always give it a go ... But not now. It's half past 1 am, and I haven't slept for 40 hours straight now. I think the tools I develop will be a tad bit better AFTER I get some sleep :P
