Uplink mode

Name: Defcon: Uplink
Uplink in defcon.
You will play as underground hacker owned by a company to protect company servers and attack other companys server.
Nuke = Revelation virus
City = server/computer/lan
population = amount of data on server (destroyed/still reachable)
Silo = compiler
Silo in defence = firewall
air command = proxy
radar = monitor
Sub = trojan virus
carrier = spyware
batteship = antispyware
bomber = worm
fighter = keylogger

what do you think?

The idea is very nice indeed, but ... You'd have to modify a lot of stuff to get the right feel.

Of course, this could be approached as a team. Possible future mod, indeed :)

I think mods should try to be more creative and not make 1:1 equivalents of the current units simply changing how they look... I enjoy graphical mods (love the iso buildings) too but when presented with a great new (or old) theme like Uplink I'd like to see something new in the gameplay as well. If that's not currently possible then hopefully IV will enhance mod support in the future...

irstly it will be only name + image chage and world change but later it could be advanced by:
Adding proxies (like silo or airbase...) so if player shoot a revelation from firewall other player will not see the source, only he will se is a proxy position - player can build only one proxy and it can be destoryed with one virus hit so it is easy to destroy

I couldn't imagine they wouldn't increase support, seeing how incredibly active and creative the modding community is already!

And I agree with your 1:1 opinion, hence the need to do a LOT of stuff to give the right atmosphere to a mod like this.

It will be nearly impossible only if two things happend:
1. Introversion will release a source code ( :P )
2. IV will release some king of SDK with patch to mod uplink

I’d be happy to help, this idea has a lot of similarities in theme to my ‘Ghost Hack’ mod, (though I’m taking ‘cyber punk’ artistic license with my theme. See http://www.winterstatic.com/Ghosthack/ for icons and design) We could really do with a Defcon modding community site to work together on these ideas!

Yeah it is similar but your idea is to affect target person, mine is affect corporation.
LOL Europe will be transformed to Goverment so all corporation can attack goverment easy like europe :D

or in uplink u can hack the protovision system and enter joshua and when u play global thermonuclear war u start defcon?

We really just need go gather up all of the people that would be interested in mod work and set out a load of tasks, delegate them off and see what we can come up with :)

Rather than everyone doing their own thing and getting copies of graphics and concept game modes :p

Well, introversion's latest news release on their website shows they want to enhance mod support so, great news for all mods that deserve gameplay changes rather than just graphical enhancements :)
