Cities Don't Show Up

Cities do not show up when I play a game, when I start an AI only game, they do not target cities.
Reinstalling the game didn't fix this problem.
When I played Defcon months ago, it worked and I had no problems.

Nope, sorry. This is a completely unknown problem, there always should be at least one city. Can you show us screenshots from the game (all zoomed out), from the game lobby and the advanced settings? Maybe we can spot a hint there. Also, does it happen when you play online?

What's worse is that it does happen when I play online, so I'll have to place my units at my best guess of a where the cities are, and quit, since the AI would play better then me.
Gonna try reinstalling again.

What about the screenshots Bert asked for?

Er. It's fixed now. Apparently I tried to, days ago, edit the cities, and there was a blank cities.dat file. That thing really should be deleted upon uninstallation.

It's customary to leave user generated files in place on uninstallation. Didn't you get sync errors when playing online with your modified cities.dat?

Well... no errors popped up. I suppose this is something that can be put on the back burner until the next patch.
The cities.dat wasn't modified though. It was totally blank.
I'll describe further what I saw when I started or played a game:
The usernames, instead of being on top of continents were at exactly 0,0 (geographically (longitude, latitude) on the map).
No cities.
Clicking "people" did not show any color.
Playing against myself, firing nukes towards known areas of population resulted in no score changes at all.
