MONITOR (defcon lobby)

Postby Eral » Tue Oct 14, 2008 5:49 pm

Hi,

I don't know if it's the best place to post that (or if there is another post about it) but, i encounter problems while i'm in the defcon lobby. A server or smthg like that called "MONITOR" let me lag a lot when it appears. Weird thing! I don't understand why, but i'm sure it comes from it. If someone has a solution or can explain me... it will be really great.

Thx

Can you describe a bit better what the effect is and the circumstances? Do you join this MONITOR server, then it lags? Or does the presence of the MONITOR server alone cause you to lag in the server browser (or even a completely different server)? And what kind of lag do you get? The term "lag" is quite generic.

It's just when i'm in the lobby; searching for servers where i can play, and, when this server appears (the famous MONITOR), it slows me incredibly (only IN THE LOBBY, not by playing in another server or smthg else). I never join this server (was never able to join it - i tried). There is anyway just one place into and always took by CPU... I know my PC is a bit old but good enough (pentium 4, 3Ghz and 512 Ram with a 128 graphic card). And, even if i'm not info enginer, i find it very weird, because this problem comes just when the MONITOR appears and disapears with it. I legally deduced that the problem comes from it.

Am I hacked by the Matrix? Will I weak up soon? Too many questions require the means of a specialist.

Thx a lot Bert. :D

Ah, don't worry about the servers. They're stress tests, run by IV. I thought they were only doing this for Multiwinia, but either they're also running ones for Defcon, or the MW tests falsely advertise themselves on the Defcon metaserver. I'll post about it in a place where IV is more likely to notice it (the MW bug report forum) in case the latter is true.

Generally, a stress test is a test of a system under heavy load. I think Byron talks about the specifics of the MW stress tests here: http://forums.introversion.co.uk/introv ... php?t=1703 (I may be totally wrong and remember reading something more specific elsewhere, but I can't find it and don't remember if it was public or not)
