cant patch the game

i just bought the game at a retail store instaled it no problem with that did 2-3 game to test the game then i want to try it online so i need to download the patch but when i try to install the patch an error window pop-up :
C:\Program Files\Defcon\defcon.exe

An error occurred while trying to replace the existing file :
DeleteFile failed; code 5.
Accès refusé. **Access Denied. in french**

Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or Abort to cancel instalation



the thing inside the ** is a translation i made and isnt there

so what should i do if i want to play online ?

I think the solution to this problem was to reboot your computer before you install the patch, possibly twice. It's caused by an open Defcon process lingering in the background, and the reboot kills it.

The only method that worked for me was to reboot into SAFE MODE to install the patch. Though some people have reported having luck with simply rebooting normally, I never did, nor did a few others.

I have yet to discover why, but if rebooting doesn't work I guarantee safe mode will.

Oh, and of course, you need to run the patch with admin powers.

I had this problem back in the day. As I recall, what I had to do was reinstall after clearing out the left over files. Let me see if I can find the post about it...
