GF 8600M GS new drivers -> choppy game

Postby collateraldamage » Wed Oct 08, 2008 6:27 pm

Updated my Nvidia drivers and it made DEFCON choppy.
Driver version is 7.15.11.6749
Graphics card is GF 8600M GS
OS is Windows Vista Home
DirectX 10

Before updating the drivers DEFCON worked perfectly fine. But because some other games did not I had to update the drivers which caused DEFCON angry. The game is choppy like it works smooth for a second or two then like a half second stop and again it works smooth. Any other Nvidia users experienced this?

Not yet. But what you describe sounds exactly like what is supposed to happen if an OpenGL application doesn't call glFinish(). Which Defcon doesn't (it did in previous versions). I've been trying to get that call included for ages, but nobody listents to me :(

So what you are saying is that some lazy bastard at Introversion is too busy munchin' donuts and can't spare any time to fix the bloody game?

Highly unprofessional. Bloody lazy noobs.

Yep, that's exactly what is happening. Well done.

Have the same OS and an 8600GT, and the same problem. Tried reformatting on XP, and again same problem. My old Radeon 2400 was smoother on DEFCON, which should'nt really be happening. I notice Google Earth jerks alot now also, and changing from Directx to OpenGL made no difference. Not sure if the 2 are linked or not, but games like Crysis or Dark Messiah run without any choppiness at all.
