Random Connection Problem

Postby Kamaria » Thu Jul 17, 2008 8:35 pm

4 out of 5 games I get the dreaded connection problem and it just doesn't go away, effectively screwing me out of the game, whether it's just after I've placed all my fleet, entered combat, or near the end of the game...it seems completely random. It doesn't happen -every- game, but it is often enough to warrant concern.

Please, help me out.

Are you on a wireless network?

(Those kind of error normally happen on bad network)

True, it happened to me occasionally, especially when the microwave was running, until I made a cantennae.

Or it could be the "Connection Problem" you get when the client can't keep up with the simulation.

Kamaria: in addition what the others are suggesting, could you, the next time you get a connection problem, press F1 and post the FPS value you can read in the top left of the screen?

FPS value was around 60.

I do not have a wireless nextwork, but I have a wired Linksys router. Model RT31P2.

Looks like all our theories are wrong, then. Mine, at least. FPS needs to be <10 for that.

Would you have a way to test the stability of your connection? Anything that requires a permanent link between you and a random server on the Internet will do, for example an IRC client, or another online game, or Voice over IP chat, or a remote login session (FTP, telnet, ssh).

Do the following test: http://myspeed.visualware.com/voip/ and check for Packet loss: you -> server, in advanced tab?

Connection is perfectly fine, no issues with it at all. 2.8ms average jitter, 0.0% packet loss.

I'm sick of it.

Have any of the servers you have been playing on been DedCon Test servers (recognizable by the annoyingly chatty Bert's Bot)? If yes, I could check their logs, provided you tell me your online name or Key ID (to be found in debug.txt pretty much at the top, only the numerical ID, I obviously would not ask for your full key :) )
