It's interesting that they don't mention Pinnacle on the back of the box, but regardless, the issue with the lack of a code presumably lies with Pinnacle and the method with which they provide auth keys.

That is, the fault lies with Pinnacle - though that doesn't rule out IV solving the issue for you in their stead.

O_o

*gets eyes checked*

Though I must say it's very similar... the pinnacle logo is a bit unobvious, and I didn't actually get the box out to compare the text.

?!?

Thanks for the advice I have emailed support.

I do admit to missing the Pinnacle logo on the CD...

But you gotta admit it wasn't on the box!?

It was a new wrapped copy, not a trade in though.

ggs all.

Also, if you look correctly, on the Box and on the CD the website is http://www.defconvideogame.com/ , this is the Pinnacle version of http://www.everybody-dies.com/ Check the logo at the bottom of the site.

  1. My name is xander, not Xander.
  2. I stand by my previous statements.
  3. Just in case it wasn't made clear by everyone else:

  4. It looks like you bought the game used. I say this because of the sticker on the box that says "We won't be beaten on trade-ins." I suppose a store could slap such a sticker on new games, but I can't think of any stores that do so in my area. In fact, where I buy my games, new games are shrink wrapped, and any stickers are on the outside layer of plastic, not on the DVD case itself. At any rate, if the game was used, it is possible that the game came without an auth code, in which case I would suggest that you take the game back to the store, and ask for a refund.

"It was shrink wrapped" ≠ "It was in its original shrink wrap"

Generally speaking, used games have a couple of stickers stuck on them, then are re-shrink wrapped. Again, at least, in my experience, that is the case. The boxes that are shipped from the factory are shrink wrapped there, thus any stickers that are under the shrink wrap imply one of two things: (a) either the store took the game out of its original wrapping, slapped a sticker on it, then re-wrapped it or (b) the game is used, and was re-shrink wrapped by the store. (b) seems more credible to me.

Again, I suggest that you go back to the store and ask for a refund.

This stinks.

I can't get back to the shop for weeks, no wonder some people pirate software when legitimate customers are ignored by companies like Introversion!

They don't respond to my emails, and neither does Pinnacle. I made a purchase in good faith and now I'm penalised. Anyone would think I'm copying thousands of their games!?

If anyone reading this is considering buying one of the Introversion games they should think twice, if there is a problem with something out of your control it's bad luck, they don't want to know !

Stick it where the sun don't shine....

But xander, thank you for the advice.

What can I say? It seems some poeple just can't get their mind around a given concept...

Should Introversion do a gift to martski and get him a free copy Defcon? I guess they could but they are absolutely not in obligation to do it.

I'm sure that if you went into gamestation (which is where I assume you bought it from) and showed them a) your receipt and b) the back of the manual lacking in authcode, they would happily exchange it for a copy with an authkey.

Keep in mind it's only been about 2 business days since you initially posted... even the best funded customer support operations, which IV is assuredly not, generally expect you to wait a week. Don't assume people bear you ill will simply because they are unable to do things exactly when you want them to, regardless of how irritating your situation may be.

As shinygerbil has stated, I'm sure the store will be willing to swap your copy for one with an authkey.

Why is this IV's problem? They didn't sell you the game. IV sold Pinnacle the rights to sell the game (or IV allows Pinnacle to sell the game for a share of the profits; or however the arrangement goes). Pinnacle then sold the game to some store. That store sold the game to some random schlub. That schlub sold the game to Gamestation. Gamestation, unaware of the lack of an auth code, sold the game to you. It was done in good faith, and I am certain that Gamestation will be willing to do something to rectify the situation, as the fault ultimately lies with them for selling something that they really couldn't sell (as they lacked an auth code).

Let me put it this way. If you bought a used copy of WoW, but didn't get a subscription with it, would you be mad at Blizzard, or the store that sold you a product that you couldn't use? (or possibly yourself, for not doing enough research?)

I really don't see why you are so upset with IV and Pinnacle, as they had nothing to do with your situation.
