Introversion

I haven't been able to figure this one out. When I join a game, I'm able to chat with players in the pre-game screen. When a game starts against other human players (keys seem to work when it's me vs. a cpu) there are a lot of keys that I'm not able to use in the chat (comms) window. Like H, E, I, L, etc... I can't remember all the ones that won't work, but I know ones like N, C, E, M, and V work.

Anybody have any ideas?

This is a strange problem - I've had similar things in both linux and windows before, only ever in fullscreen mode... some characters would print "t" all the time, other times just not appear... does this happen all the time for you, or is it intermittent.

Also, what keyboard layout are you using?

Sorry, can't help, but just had to point out the odd key selection. I remember reading a report about the key 5 not working for someone.

No strange keyboard layout... It's a Dell Latitude D630 laptop with a US keyboard configuration. I did find out that it intermittently works in the pre-game window. Sometimes I can use all the keys there, sometimes I can't. I haven't been able to in the game for quite awhile, although I think a couple weeks ago when I got it that I could.

I did find out the specific keys that aren't working: g h i k l m o p q r

All the others work fine and I haven't been switching between windows in the game.

I've got the same issue happening to me - is it perchance a Vista thing, as I never had it before when I was on XP?

Troubleshooting

* When I'm typing, letters are sometimes represented as squares or other weird symbols, what's going on?

Possible causes:

* You're trying to use characters which are not supported by the font which Defcon uses.
* You've been switching between windows using Alt+Tab, Alt+ESC or other similar methods for switching out of and back into Defcon. It seems different methods have different effects on different systems.

Possible solutions to problems induced by window switching:

* Try switching between windows a few more times as it sometimes fixes itself.
* Try using an alternative method for switching between windows.
* Don't switch windows. Instead use the Panic Key (double press ESC), this will minimize Defcon. To make the window return just double click the Defcon icon in the system tray.

Sometimes for me, just pressing the "alt" key by itself works.
