ERROR : 'Abort : 'Error reading bitmap'

Postby Yan » Sat Nov 03, 2007 5:43 pm

I have just created my second basic mod today which involved changing sailable.bmp, coastlines.bmp and travel_nodes.bmp in order to make the Bering straights sailable and the Sea of Labrador. when i try to load up the mod it displays an error box saying:
"ERROR : 'Abort : 'Error reading bitmap'

..\..\contrib\systemIV\lib\resource\bitmap.cpp
line number 238'"

it then says there has been a runtime error and that the program has requested the runtime to end it in an unusual way. I gues, from my tiny programming knowledge, that it has returned something other than 0 to the main function.

I dont know where this source file is stored and i dont know if its my fault in what i did to the images, i did add 7 extra nodes to the travel_nodes.bmp. also another mod i made earlier, changing the territory of europe, works perfectly so i think its my fault with the images. I just want to know if there's an obvious trap i might of fallen into, or if i need to tweak something to make this work.

Thnx v. much for ur help

Yan

I tried saving it with paint but that didn't help; i tried isolating the problem by leaving only sailable.bmp in there and taking out travel_nodes.bmp as a friend had done this successfully; i tried changing the name of the folder but it gave a "write-protect error", this same error also prevented me from deleting any files within the folder. The same error still appears about line 238 of bitmap.cpp. perhaps if i could find that file i could understand which part is causing the error. if any1 knows where it is pls tell.

You won't find that file because the source to Defcon is not included with Defcon for obvious reasons :)

Anyway, All that is happening here is that you're passing a bitmap with an invalid bit depth. The game will accept 4bit, 8bit and 24bit bitmaps. If you're sure that the bitmap is one of those bit depths, then make sure it's not somehow damaged.

Did the above solve your problem?
