I bought Defcon a month or two after it was released, and it was smooth sailing for all the games I've played on it. But ever since last week [or two weeks ago] when i re downloaded for some nuclear fun. it comes up with AUTHENTICATING and after a minute i get Steam Authentication FAILED. Ive tried all the things thats said for this kind of thing but nothing works.

Can anyone help?

Try deleting the 'authkey' file in '[Your Steam directory]\steamapps\common\defcon'?

Actually, if you delete it, Steam should attempt to create a new authkey. Unless you are saying that you have already done so, in which case you could use a lesson in past tense vs future tense.

Thats the thing, My Defcon wont make the Authkey for me. It just says Requesting Authentication for about 10 to 20 seconds before say its unable to Authenticate me.

How can i put up a picture to show the problem?

Has there been a fix for this?

I have purchased this for both of my Steam Accounts and get this message. I have tried everything including deleting the file mentioned and disabling the firewall. I have done this for both Steam Accounts on both computers and nothing has helped or fixed the issue..

Make sure you enter it exactly as you see it on the store page, complete with the dashes and uppercase letters and filling exactly the space alloted for it.

1.6 on steam uses a different way to authenticate, and so far, we haven't heard of any problems with the new way. So, chances are the answer is 'yes', but it's a bit early to be sure.

Just thought Id jump in here I dont use steam I have a boxed version. But since installing v1.6 I now have to enter my key every time I first load the game. Any reason for this? I have tried creating an "authkey" folder and putting my key in there but with no joy.

v1.6 is just a steam update. The only differences between 1.6 and 1.43 are the interaction with steam, there is no change in gameplay or content of the game itself. There is absolute no reason to use 1.6 if you dont use steam.

Edit: Oops, missed the release of v1.6 as a standard client.
