Gameplay Graphics Glitch?

Postby Hyperion » Fri Sep 14, 2007 7:42 pm

Hey :) , i play defcon on the lowest possible graphics settings for the game...no city names, no sharp borders etc etc...i've noticed recently in watching playbacks of the games i've participated in that my opponent has had subs in active pinging mode...that i swear i could not see when we were playing the game...infact i often find i'm under attack by enemy subs when i see their little torpedo lines hitting my ships as though from nowhere  now i also have some invisibility issues with 'combat range' lines sometimes...which was never such a big deal but as you can imagine this sub thing is.

I guess i wanted to know if this is caused because i am playing on low graphics settings? or if there is some option i can change to improve this...does anyone else suffer from this?

Have you actually tried testing it out to be sure? I.e., set up a game on a dedcon allied (so he knows where you'll be able to see his active subs), have the other guy defect and ping subs in your radar?

Edit: I just tried it with the CPU (at work, metaserver blocked) and I could see active subs just fine. I suppose I can't try it without being allied first, although I can't see how that would change anything. I turned all the settings down/off.

On a side note, I don't see how you can play that way.

No but to be honest :? it started in a game against you...myself Asia, you Africa...i thought that any subs pinging would be visible to all players in a game, including 1v1.

Where i had suffered naval casualties to enemy fire that i couldn't explain until i discovered it was my opponents subs. When i first noticed this i could maybe put it down to maybe me just not noticing it  ...but after so many games and watching dedcon playbacks of enemy subs fully pinging in my view and i hadn't seen this pinging during the game...basically it's a huge disadvantage for me  i thought maybe it was a graphics glitch since i suffer the same glitch with combat range graphics on my silos and some units sometimes.

It's just very, odd looking. I still think a test is in order.

Well, hi.there and I just did a couple of tests. I turned down all my settings and we placed everything. He pinged, I saw all twelve.

We then restarted, I pinged, he saw all twelve with his settings all the way down.

When this happens, does the enemy have any radar on your ships? Passive mode subs can shoot at sighted ships without pinging. That might be what's happening to you.

In the game with Ace this was not the case...i ran some subs under him into a group of his subs that i couldn't see pinging...no matter then, this could just be a bug i seem to be suffering from  hardware related or something *shrugs*.

May have solved my own problem...i hadn't taken radar coverage into account and hadn't realised you couldn't see enemy pinging subs without radar coverage of that area

I'd concentrated on playing so many multiplayer games when i first started playing defcon that i had so much radar coverage i hadn't considered that it might be a factor for me seeing an enemies pinging subs

I'm guessing by "so much radar coverage" you're meaning yours plus allies radar...
