Very Slow Defcon w/Good Computer

Postby Nate5709 » Mon Jul 02, 2007 2:34 am

Defcon is incredibly laggy for me...the menus and the actual game, which isn't even close to playable (~5 fps)

Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00GHz
2 GB RAM
ATI X1700

This is all on a laptop running Windows Vista...which i guess could be the problem. I tried reinstalling the game a few times, no luck.

Vista drivers for video cards have had notoriously bad support for OpenGL, which is the system Defcon uses for its graphics. Try getting the latest drivers from ATI - they might have better support, and hence run the game better.

nope it does not help, but the font changes. Tinyfont looks bad with big text...but the game is still incredibly slow.

How do other OpenGL games play? As stated above, it is probably a problem with bad OpenGL support in Vista.

Obviously, we're not going to _recommend_ you illegally download a game to test if OpenGL works....

Perhaps you could try a benchmark utility. I found this : SpecViewPerf 55.8Mb OpenGl performance Benchmark
here http://active-hardware.com/english/benc ... hmarks.htm.

Note I have no experience with this benchmarking tool...

Or you could use one of the benchmarking tools mentioned in this article (http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01/29/xp-vs-vista/).
