Recently, while I've been playing, I've noticed that there's an awful lot more coughing in the background than I'm used to... Is that something that came with the new patch?

With the new spread of epidemics including SARS, bird flu and others; well you can't be too generous with the amount of coughing in the background...

Personally I think the coughing add a element of depression to the...

Just kidding, if you wanna turn the stupid coughing off, extract the dat files and find the sounds list and remove "woman" something... <_<

My understanding is that the coughing, like other aspects of the sound system, is related to certain game events. Actually, it is quite possible that he is hearing more coughing -- maybe he is losing more, or winning more, or hitting some other trigger more often. That is a very real possibility. On the other hand, it might be a simple case of observer bias. Without empirical data, there is no way to be sure. *shrugs*

As to the coughing, meh. And, as has been pointed out, you can download a mod to turn it off.
