I'm not trying to be hostile.

Frankly, this debate has reached such a degree of semantics that it might as well be a debate over legal diction. I am not here to defend Taedal in any way, nor am I implying that his error is indicative of my own or the numerous others who are also suffering from authentication; I was merely misquoted earlier by another poster as having the same issues as his, which is not the case.

Secondly, your comments here have been far less than productive. I am not actively seeking means of criticising you, but I would like to point out that this entire scuffle between us originated when you misquoted me and I defended myself in pointing out the fact that my prior words had been taken out of context. It is you who has continually responded to this thread- seemingly for the purpose of the prolonging this argument through the manipulation of quotes, and so I ask who is on this "high horse"? Do you intend to continue this argument indefinitly until you feel satisfied at having the final word?

I responded to this thread for the purpose of helping someone, yet you have insisted upon hijacking for the purpose of expressing your support for Introversion Software? We who suffer from these authentication issues have a right to be frustrated towards Introversion Software, I do not feel it is your place to quote me as being incorrect in my interpretation of the error (Et. ala your initial misquoting of myself).

Please do not respond to this thread unless you intend to positively contribute to the resolving of the authentication issue, and can do so without further criticising those who are afflicted by it.

Actually, MrBongo, I'm going to step in here and end this "argument" you're having with Montyphy. You've had what you wanted, a reply from Chris over the issue. There's no need to question the helping of Montyphy. He was right to put question into the usage of beta patches after Taedal mentioned that he had tried to use them, noting that they are not compatible.

Montyphy is a fan, volunteering his knowledge of Defcon to help others (he compiled the unofficial Defcon FAQ for example). If people keep questioning his help for no real reason then it'll only serve to deprive others of his help.

I know everyone is frustrated with the whole Steam issue. There's little anyone can do other than wait for Valve to resolve the issue. Until then I don't want to see any more posts here unless it's ones of other people saying sorry to each other over what was said.

Don't forget, if in doubt, walk away, come back later and re-read. See if you see the post in the same light.

I'll say again, I never intended for this thread to turn into what it has become, I simply referred the original poster to the previous thread in the hopes of further assisting them with the information already compiled there. I do not wish to argue with Montyphy, but his misquoting of my previous statement needed to be addressed and corrected due to the fact that it would mislead those into thinking I had also moved .exe folders and installed beta patches (which I did not) like Taedal had done. Had this not been resolved, others attempting to help me with the authentication error may have done so in an inappropriate manner as they endeavoured to resolve issues that did not apply to me.

While I respect what Montyphy has done for the community, I believe the community in general may be a bit disproportionate in terms of their support for him in this current situation. I referred him to the previous thread upon his mentioning of the Authkey file (As it had been addressed there), and yet he on multiple occasions accused me of being misleading or as having over-complicated the issue. I do not discourage the submitting of tips or instructions, yet I find it unfair to be accused of not reading the entirety of threads when Montyphy is clearly guilty of this himself.

This isn't meant to be a blame game, and I'm sure Montyphy cares about this issue being resolved as much as the rest of us, and so I offer my apologies to both Montyphy and any others who may have been offended by the preceeding remarks.

Oh dear people, you have all lost sight of the goal in an attempt to win personal battles :'(

This thread is of my, and its would appear many other peoples, valve problem :< Now if someone else comes along they are going to have to make a new thread on this issue, and the whole circle will return! The horror of it all.

Oh and Montyphy it isn't to do with the Authkey that was my first line of enquiry :o

I've gone on the website and it says I put my email in and they'll resend it, but I never bought it off the defcon website so I have no email registered with them. So would any of you fine chaps know how I'd find my auth key again? :(

So you bought the game over Steam, you don't have a key and the steam application doesn't confirm you buying defcon.

Hear hear.

MrBongo, as far as I can see no-one was hostile until your protracted rant here. Montyphy's comments were entirely in line - just because someone contradicts you does not mean they are attacking you. While your misunderstanding that frenchfrog was a moderator is entirely understandable, your caustic reaction to this has hardly helped matters. People are in fact trying to be of assistance.

From what I've read, it seems to be an issue on Valve's side, and there's nothing any Steam users can do about it, unfortunately.. :/

Well, if multiple people using the Steam version have suddenly been unable to get their game authenticated, it suggests something at Steam's end is causing it, in which case you may have to wait until they solve the issue.

Perhaps IV should make the demo version unrestricted for a little while >_> <_< Sounds like an idea to me.

Finally, I already apologized - I do not require "post-argument" judgements of who was right and who was wrong. Why is it that people on these forums are so insistent upon prolonging debate? Let the disagreement cease and restrain yourselves from expressing your personal judgement on the matter. Jeese.

@Mr Trigger Happy, releasing an unrestricted demo would cause too many problems. Looks like you'll just have to be patient until IV/Steam/Valve fix things.

There have been four sequential posts before yours that do not mention the "argument". If anyone is trying to prolong the debate it would be you. For the love of God just stop posting comments relating to the debate and people will stop "prolonging it"/responding.

This problem should now be fixed. Next time you run Defcon you should get a valid full-game key (after a few seconds wait). If it still doesn't work delete your authkey file from your Defcon folder - this will force a full re-authentication.
