This problem should now be fixed. Next time you run Defcon you should get a valid full-game key (after a few seconds wait). If it still doesn't work delete your authkey file from your Defcon folder - this will force a full re-authentication.

The issue is definitely NOT resolved, I tried today and I get "invalid key". I've purchesed Defcon on Steam over 6 months ago, and was able to play until recently.

Have you tried deleting your authkey from the folder as Chris suggested?

I've deleted the authkey > no go. I've deleted the whole defcon folder and let steam redownload it > no go. I've uninstalled steam, reinstalled it and let it download defcon again > no go. I'm out of ideas.

Have you made any changes to your internet security recently?

Is your firewall blocking Defcon?

Are the correct ports forwarded on your router/firewall?

No change whatsoever. Same settings for the past 6 months, and it worked perfectly until recently.

It's been more than a year since this issue was first discussed, and it's still not solved properly.

Last month my Steam copy of the game was working like normal and this month it's not. A friend of mine had problems last month, but it's working this month. If this keeps up we can never get to play together.

I love Defcon, so I'd very much like this problem to get solved...again.

I can't believe looking at some of the dates on this post that this issue *still* hasn't been resolved and that the game is still being sold as normal. I bought it on Steam yesterday and had I known that the game *might* work one month and then might not work another I certainly wouldn't have put down money. If anyone from IV is reading this, very bad form - at least make sure any issues like this are clearly stated on the store page before encouraging people to put down money for games.

The problem is that there's no connection between IV and Steam. You can post your wrath on Valve forums.

Oh Really?

I've bought 40 games on steam and I've never had this problem with any of them. The problem is IV's stupid Auth key and if Steam is causing IV's Auth key not to work FOR PAYING CUSTOMERS then it's on IV to get it fixed between IV and Valve. It would be as simple as a patch getting rid of the auth system altogether on the steam version of the game! Like all the other games do!

Ah. And how would you suggest the steam version without the authentication system can verify to a non-steam server that it is legit? "HI LOL IM TEH STEAM VERSION TRUST ME"?
