Sound error - help?

Postby AstroCat » Fri Feb 02, 2007 9:46 pm

I get this error when I enable HW sound. Why is this happening?

Code: Select all

=========================
=   BLACK BOX REPORT    =
=========================

ERROR : 'DirectSound ERROR
..\..\..\SystemIV\lib\sound\sound_library_3d_dsound.cpp line 263

Direct sound couldn't create a secondary buffer
Error Code : E_FAIL
An undetermined error occurred'

=========================
=      STACKTRACE       =

retAddress = 0040FF6F

Here is my DXDIAG

I don't have problems with sound in any other games.

Thanks for the help!

Just to name three. If you use the search link (at the top of the page, too), and enter your error, i.e. "..\..\..\SystemIV\lib\sound\sound_library_3d_dsound.cpp line 263", you will find more results. Those threads should give you some idea of what is going on. If not, you can always post in one of them, rather than creating a new thread.

Read all those and still no fix in there. Any help from a developer? Thanks!

Hmmm, pretty much all problems related to sound are from poeple having a Sound Blaster Audigy 2, there is something fishy in the their drivers. Should perhaps try a different driver.

Looks like there drivers from 9 Oct 2006: Audigy 2 ZS Windows XP drivers

Some people were also taking about problems with other games when some sound blaster cards are in entertainment mode.

And check the suggestion from: http://forums.introversion.co.uk/defcon ... php?t=3409

EDIT: worse case try the alternative Sound Blaster drivers? www.kxproject.com (I haven't tryed them myself)

EDIT EDIT: Please post back if you solve the problem. (and post the solution)

Hi there,
had similar issues with an AUDIGY 2 Card and Defcon (besides i had the same problems with videos in firefox too) - system crash with looping sound
I installed the KX drivers and now it seems to works. Had a full game against CPU without problems. People say KX is not recommended for games but they´re great for most music applications. I only play Defcon and I have lot of music stuff so its fine with me ;-)

Just a note: Had to install newest directX (9.0 I think), crashed with my old 8.somewhat (Earlier i suspected the 9.0 directX to cause this error so i switched to an old version).

Hope this works for you too
