Subject says it all really.
However, 900x1600 and 1024x1280 work fine. I'm running on an nVidia GeForce 6600GT with ForceWare version 84.21. This is with the game's own screenshot code (P key), PrintScrn works fine.
Not a game-ruining bug, but I thought I'd help however I can.

Does the game output anything relevent, like a blackbox.txt or the beginnings of the bitmap? If so, either of them could help here.

No, old-school 4:3 resolutions are offensive. Nice 16:10 widescreen LCDs running at 1680x1050 are far more delightful, particularly with Defcon.
I wanted to add that I do not get the crashing myself, though I am using a 7600GT and am using drivers 81.25 (cos the latest drivers are rubbish). Doubt it's the resolution, and the driver versions are near enough so I don't know what it could be.

It's not that bad, really. Or much better. Just sort of interesting. There's a slight advantage when you and the enemy are vertically north-south of each other in the case of Africa/Europe or North/South America but that's it.

Nothing related to taking the snapshot shows up in debug.txt and no .bmp or any other files appear in the Defcon directory when I do this.
I don't know if it would help but here's a screenshot taken with PrintScrn.
