New Players and Mentors
After reading a few threads about New Players I thought Id suggest some of the veterans take up my challenge and start mentoring.
The idea is if you are a New Player or looking to increase your skills theres nothing better than a 2v2 and an experienced player as partner who is willing to take the time and patience to explain how best to play.
So in the hope of getting the ball rolling I am willing to mentor another New Player. This means just get in touch and well figure out time and then we can meet up on the 2v2 servers (I can now access the SFCON servers...thanks guys!) and "kick some ass".
I would ask any veteran teams to be patient if your playing against a mentoring team, and remember that after a few good games we will have yet another good player for our community.
So I suggest put down your name here if youre willing and able to MENTOR
or if you are a "New Player" looking to learn.

MENTOR
Artificial Elegance is willing to MENTOR
It would be so cool to have a tourney with "MentoTeams" or maybe even "InstaMentoTeams".
Imagine Ace Rimmer + Noob1 vs Schubdüse + Noob2.
Or LSWP + Pup1 vs Motty + Pup2.
We could grant badges for the best Mentor and the best Padawan.
We could have a lot of fun.
We could experience a great buddy-feeling.
We could...

Badges
Schub...I like the idea of the badges. Not sure how you would regulate it. Would be nice to chat and give it some thought.
Who could set up a MENTOR/NOOB server? Its a great idea!

BMN?
...are you offering to learn?
MENTOR BADGES
Schub...
I think its wise to consider a few things for mentors.
1. Skill (thats TOM out
2. Experience (thats Korean out
3. Availability (thats Zo out :-/
4. Friendliness (thats Ryan out :->
The moderators will have to adjudicate and if complaints come in then the badge has to be able to be removed.
Having the MENTOR badge will mean new players will be able to see who they are best fielding questions too and asking for help.
Perhaps a STUDENT badge would help too, showing players who are genuinely interested in learning (useful for ruling out "droppers" and "wasters" for games).
I could see it working that if you join a MENTOR server you can check to ID on the forum and then check if they have to badge before you start play.
How many games have I had where theve said, "yeah Im really good lets play"...only to watch in shame as they place without a thought before 4.
Using the form of "Moderated" badges would mean a bit of work but would certainly answer my prayer of being sure youre paired up with someone that is willing to listen and discuss.
It would be nice to hear more ideas and support, even from new"er" players.

It's all very interesting,but..stop..who said that u got more skills than Tom now?)
Tom has a lot of free time, experience, now he improved a lot+ he is friendly.
So if he wants to teach, let him.
P.s I know u a lot and i can say, that u are not the nicest guy to deal with+no super skills.
So let Korean and Tom help others if they want, don't be judge,u can't afford to be it.
Hard feelings

...the mention of my DefCon friends was just a little joke...
A balance of all these points is important. Its not just enough to be good, or friendly, you should ideally be willing and able.
Again these are just suggestions, as many of us feel that DEFCON deserves to get some new players sticking at it. Weve seen some new players recently get to grips with the game and really up thier game.
It was the same with me years back. I was totally green (or blue) until SYNTHETIC took it on himself to knock some sense into me with some memorable 2v2 games.
Im sure none of the afforementioned took offence at my mentions and got the jist of my humour as it was intended

All the Best,

Know thy self
...Little worm.
I hardly know you so, I do wonder if you have been stalking me now!
As for skills, there is a undeniable world of difference between someone who has just begun and someone who has been playing a while and grasped its finer points.
Some can teach more, but Im fairly sure any of the guys around here respect that I know more or less what I am doing (and that includes having fun).
And anyhow dont they say if you cant do it teach it?
Dont be so negative Worm...grab a noob and hug him.

Kicking him into faraway minus would be a nicer lesson, imo.

U re absolutely right.
My development was base on it.
Hate, desire to revenge could be better than basic education from "mentors".
Could be better only when u has a strong character.
So i'm voting for this both types of education.
TOM
