DO NOT RAGEQUIT

Postby Admiral Yoshi » Tue Aug 17, 2010 7:24 am

In short, always give a person blessing, not wishing ill to others. When in DEFCON you are strategically defeated, do not try to evade the ultimate defeat by leaving. That will only make it worse and you're not going to learn from your mistakes. If you wish ill to others, then you ragequit, you have murdered somebody (read the Book of Mathew from the Holy Bible). If you felt disgraced and ragequit, you took suicide. Simple.

SFCON 2 vs. 2 Equalised

Asia = Ace Rimmer
Africa = Mogwai

vs.

Europe = GHOST
North America = Admiral Yoshi

I got like -66 points after I left the game. Whole story summarized, Ace killed off my entire Pacific Fleet, and the only way is to launch my ICBM's but he destroyed my silos during the 7-10 minutes of the launch mode. Feeling disgraced, I quit. Even worse is that GHOST couldn't break through Mogwai's defenses and well...lost...

Don't be like me feeling disgraced! Accept defeat and take it like a man! Don't ragequit because you only lost. In fact, you and I stumble lots and lots of times. But we have to rise up to the occasion. Feel confident that you'll do great, accept defeat and honor the victor, and give praise to the defeated to give life to the defeated spirits.

A PERSONAL MESSAGE TO ACE RIMMER (this time, in Chinese :wink: ):

是的,我是个可耻的失败之一。是啊...你是对的。接受失败像一个男人!感谢您的小费。也许下一次,你会更有可能击败我了!相信我,我也能得到更好的!海军上将耀西准备站起来!下一次,当我有我的技术准备,我会吃掉你和你的车队像我吞下Goombas和Koopas !但它不会是今天,埃斯黎默尔。我仍然继续为你祈祷!上帝保佑你!

I think you give too much credit to me; Mogwai came in after we had our initial battle and fought you under Mexico. If any silos were destroyed, he did it. It wasn't till you and him went at it that I came back and finished you off in a pseudo pincer maneuver.

I couldn't vote, cause you missed something:

What do you do when you are defeated?

- ragequit, then use of my Wampa to kill the neighbours
if the neighbours are already dead
-..., then use of my Rancor to destroy the neighbourhood
if the neighbourhood is already destroyed
-..., use of my Stardestroyer to bomb the city
Vorsprung durch Kraft - Triebwerke saugen - Präzisionsarbeit... Schubdüse.

To Ace Rimmer:

I think just battling Mogwai's task force wasn't hard enough, your arrival in the scene made it worse!!!

To Schubduse:

Maybe I can include it! :D

That was the idea. :P

Let you do battle constantly, first with me, then with Mogwai, draining your resources, then come back rearmed and resupplied and finish off your exhausted fleet. Admittedly, I was a little slow and probably a bit too late but the outcome was the same as intended either way.

Yes...my fleet was exhausted...I was thinking of moving to the Atlantic once I try to defeat Mogwai's task force. But your arrival in the scene made it worse. My only other option was to launch my ICBM's and then empty the Carriers while my fleet escapes to the Indian.

Using the Search function; 'Ace Rimmer' becomes 'AceRimmer' (space is removed prior to searching). ?

On the other hand, if you are handily defeated, I see no reason to stick around. Now, maybe this is just because I am an abysmal Defcon player, but when the victory timer has not even started, and you have no nukes to fire and are 100 points in the hole, I don't see any reason to stick around. There is not much that you can do to alter the final result, and the game just isn't fun if you have no units. Let people know that you are leaving, then leave.

Early in the history of Defcon, ragequitting was a problem, because there were no dedicated servers, so when the host quit, the game ended. I don't see how that is a problem anymore. I really do not understand the objection to players quitting before the game ends. Of course, that being said, I (a) haven't played Defcon in a good long time, and (b) am pretty poor at it, anyway. So perhaps my opinion is not well informed. ;)

The problem with your argument for leaving early is the other player/s can't know for certain you've truly lost all hope of being competitive (no nukes, -100 points). And, assuming they believe you/do know for certain, it's not fun to finish off a CPU so you end up with (at least) two players who no longer get enjoyment out of the game (vs one).

Having said that, I personally don't mind a player leaving when they truly have nothing left so long as they announce it before they leave.

Even if I'm getting pasted, I see no reason to rage quit. Usually if you're getting pasted, and stick around, you can learn a thing or two. Ask questions, laugh at yourself. It is, after all, just a game.

And the people that play this game regularly are genuinely decent folk. Mogwai, ShadowStorm and Tupac even swung by my little corner of the internet to continue a discussion on world politics we were having the other night as spectators. There's no need to be a dick and run off if you're losing.
