Admiral Yoshi's WHAT TO DO (and WHAT NOT TO DO) IN DEFCON

Postby Admiral Yoshi » Tue Aug 10, 2010 1:38 am

Mistakes are one thing in a battle but a blunder will cost you the war! Here is WHAT TO DO (and WHAT NOT TO DO) IN A NUCLEAR WAR (DEFCON to be precise).

FOR ANY SUPERPOWER YOU'RE PLAYING AS:

1. Do not nuke your ally's cities when you're still allies with that player!!!

You will get your points lowered severely if you nuke your ally's cities while you're still allies with that player!

2. Do not nuke your own cities.

Same as above! Points lowered if you nuke your own city.

3. Do not scatter your silos, airfield, and/or radars!

Enemy nukes can pick off your fragmented military installations like that and soon your cities can be exposed to enemy fire.

4. Do not place your silos/airfields/radar VERY NEAR TO YOUR OWN CITY!!

If for some reason the opponent doesn't know that you placed your silos very near to a city and he fires a salvo of nukes at your city that is very near to a military installation (silos/airfield/radar), not only your city is going to get nuked, but also your military installation will suffer a great hit.

5. Battleships/Carriers CANNOT wander on their own.

Battleships and Aircraft Carriers are depended on each other to exert naval force on the world. If the battleships dissappear, the Carriers are subjected to fire without even a retaliation (same goes for if the Carriers are gone).

6. Do not put the Submarines in ACTIVE MODE if it's going to travel alone!

Enemy units can detect your "active" Submarines and can pick it off easily.

7. Do not place any military installation (silos/airfield/radar) near to the enemy border.

Enemy radar can see your military installations and can nuke it off the map. But radar can be exceptional for scouting out enemy forces.

8. Bombers must be accompanied with fighters.

Bombers are easily picked off by other fighters.

9. Do not backstab your ally when your ally is CURRENTLY LAUNCHING IT'S ICBM'S!!!!!!

THAT IS A COMPLETE BETRAYAL AND A COMPLETE DISGRACE AND I ABSOLUTELY CONDEMN BETRAYAL IN ANYWAY!

10. Do not be a troll or be spamming messages.

You'll get everyone to hate you then to nuke you...

11. Do not reveal your plans to other people!

Story: SKYNET and I were planning a betrayal against our own allies. But in order to do that, we picked separate alliances but at the same time, we ceased fire at each other. Now I wanted to know the silo placement in the US and he said that it's in British Columbia, PUBLICALLY! Not only the US was aware of the betrayal, he lost the game!

12. Do not forget to place in units in DEFCON 3! (Self explanatory)

FOR ASIA:

1. Do not place any military installations near Tokyo.

What good is it to protect Tokyo?

2. Do not place silos near Cairo, Egypt.

You'll lose that silo quickly before all 10 ICBM's can launch!

FOR RUSSIA:

1. Don't try to defend Moscow and Leningrad.

They're doomed to be nuked by bombers and subs.

2. Do not place any installations in the south. You'll be detected easily.

The north is better because it can be undetectable.

FOR EUROPE:

1. Don't put any silos or airfields in Iceland.

If the enemy sees it, you're dead.

2. Do not put any silos or airfields to the VERY SOUTH.

It'll be easily detected by bombers and fighters.

FOR AFRICA:

1. Don't even bother trying to protect Cairo, Egypt.

Just like Moscow and Leningrad, they're doomed from the start.

2. Absolutely you will NOT put any silos on North Africa.

You'll be exposing more cities and more of your cities will be nuked!

FOR SOUTH AMERICA:

1. DON'T PLACE ANY SILOS OR AIRFIELDS IN THE CENTRAL AMERICAN STRIP!

US radar will detect it and it's not hard for bombers to kill it off!

2. Don't place any military installations on the east coast of Brazil.

I learned it the hard way and lost all my silos.

FOR NORTH AMERICA:

1. Don't place any installations in Alaska.

How are you going to strike at South America then?

2. The US Navy should resort to covert missions.

You're hopelessly outnumbered. Naval nuking is advised.

FOR ANTARCTICA:

1. Don't let the penguins die! :(

I like penguins! :D

FOR AUSTRALIA:

1. Shut up and just sit back and relax for the fantastic "lights show" that's going to happen world wide.

FOR CORUSCANT:

1. Wait...Coruscant never appears in DEFCON!!!

But if you have the Death Star with you, you'll win by a landslide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Putting subs into active is not a bad idea. Subs are pretty tough when submerged, they can do a lot of damage to an enemy fleet. Especially after you've launched your birds, you should put them in active mode and go hunting.

For what it's worth I just played smokey13 (nice guy) and his active subs took out three of my carriers before I could sink them. And I only sunk them after he surfaced them to launch on me.

Yoshi... How frequently do you actually play online? I'm not trying to be mean or anything, it's merely a query.

Mainly mornings. I'm planning on Saturday, not to go to DEFCON, and just listen to the Lord.

Yoshi, I don't quite understand your poll. Do you mean a 2vs2? Or a 1vs1vs1 match?

As a matter of fact Ace Rimmer and Senator are far better players than me.
True, I was able to beat Ace twice. But this makes it just about 100:2 in favour for Ace.
Against Senator I could only get a draw. But I was Africa and he EU. To mention this is rather embarrassing.

The following players are or were stastically better players than me. (I might have forgotten someone. No Prince Adam, not you! ):

(MOR) (retired atm),
Nightwatch,
Senator,
Ace Rimmer,
rus|Mike (retired atm),
Why? (retired atm),
countersmurf,
Mojo,
Mogwai,
mvpe,
Edward,
Forever Young (retired atm),
Mrmot,
LSWP,
GHOST/47,
julian,
Blackbeard (retired atm),
cumiro (retired atm),
Eral (retired atm),
Razorjack (retired atm),
sfericz,
BATTLETRON
Stiffy (retired)
Hyperion (retired),
White Rabbit (retired),
Radiant Caligula (retired),
Jesus (retired)
Hi there (retired)
John the Greek (retired)
Void (retired)
Tobias (retired)

Some players like Groeteschele and R3D have great potential.

No offend but all these players are also better than you atm.
I consider myself belonging to the best 25 ACTIVE players. And I think, every average player could beat be me in an unfair setup.

And btw: There is no lord!

If the unfair setup means you aren't allowed to place silos, then yes.

Seriously, I'm an average player. The guys and gals that have been playing this game competitively for a few years now are light years ahead of guys like me.

Also, not to pile on or be offensive, but I'm pretty sure it was (MOR) that beat me once without using his silos. That was disheartening.

Can you give me the list of the best ACTIVE players of DEFCON (despite DEMO or not)?

Schubi made me think of averageness in player's skill. I believe that big majority of players can think that they have average skills - however for different reasons.

Noob after month of playing: Hurray, I have finaly beaten CPU, I've become average player, great success!

Tom Busch: Half of my games I lost, half I win (who cares that with noobs), therefore I am average.

Players of my skill level: Sometimes we are able to seriously jeopardize victories of Top10 players, maybe we can consider ourselves as average players.

Please read Gretels post above. I think we have a different definition of being "average". No offense intended! Please join the next tourney and you will see.

Gretel, I could kiss you. You found the right words!
I have mentioned it many times before. I thought I were a good player, cause I was quite successfull on the "free" battlefield.
Then I joined my first tourney and Nightwatch, Mrmot, Ace Rimmer, Why?, (MOR), Senator and many others showed me where the rabbit hole ends...

Sorry Yoshi, but I wouldn't dare to do it. There are countless discussions about which players are the best. I only can say who is stastically better than me.
You might want to browse the forum for "stats (from Ace Rimmer, me and maybe others)" and "ballot box". You will see many names of players. Some are still noobs, but most of them could make you trouble.
