Friendship, betrayal, cowardise

Postby The TanK » Fri Sep 05, 2008 8:13 pm

Hi everyone, let me tell you a story that perhaps have already occurs in one of your game. I was allied with one budy who was in a territory very close to me and I trust his loyalty... At the end of the game I launch all my remainings nukes on the enemy. But while I'm doing this my so called friend backstab me just to win the game.

That was perhaps a little bit stupid to trust him at 100%... anyway I want some advices please to avoid these frustating situations.

Thank you

Don't trust your allies to not backstab you. In fact, do the opposite and be prepared to backstab first.

1. Get over it.
2. That font color is really unreadable.

In a lot of situations, you can probably trust your allies less than the enemy to attack you. The ally knows he has an advantage over anyone you aren't allied with, and sees you as easy points. You should, despite your ally perhaps suggesting to stay allies or whatever, be prepared, and have subs off his coast or something. You could still get hit, but you'll take the bugger with you.

Remember, trust is both your most dangerous weakness and strongest advantage.

Use it wisely.

1) Don't be stupid. Fly bombers over his expected sub launch areas as "an offensive maneuver against" whatever enemy you are against together.

2) Don't be f- stupid. Fly fighters against his bomber wave heading towards your area, just "as a precaution".

3) Don't be ridiculously stupid. When you are about to launch, make sure his bombers aren't flying above your territory.

4) OR as an alternative to above, backstab first.

5) Have some bombers or subs near his territory to steal his biggest cities, in case he actually makes an all-out launch at you.

6) Damn you are lucky.. I'm drunk and gave away some of my secrets :/

I don't know what you're complaining about.... allies are an excellent source of kills.

Dude, you never played games like Diplomacy did you (the board game, not the Defcon Game Mode)

In those games there is only 1 (one) winner. That means you should expect a backstab.

And RL friends... meh... I was a GM on a private Ultima Server and each time an account was stolen it was a RL "friend" or even sibling that did it. And all victims thought those people are beyond any suspicion.

So remember unless you have a friend that always allies with you (although that could be considered metagaming) never trust an ally. Enemy is more trustworthy. He does not hide his desire to kill you  .

Think about it

If you target for 2 winners victories you will be more times winner(1st) place.
If you target always for 1 winner victory you will be considered as extreme backstabber so if the other players recognize you . you will be killed for sure faster :)
