Diplomacy and etc.

Postby Blackbeard » Fri Mar 14, 2008 3:27 am

Been playing a lot of Diplo. recently... found myself in plenty of 1 v 5's  Anyhow, I've been debating (with myself  ), is it best to silo launch on other's silos, or on their airbases? ...Bearing in mind that 6 nukes are required in either case ( for each 'facility').
Personally, I think it is best to take out airbases. 1: because of psychological factors (I'm talking about experienced players here, who would miss being able to restock with fighters), and 2: they are less likely to waste ship-bourne bombers on my cities if they might be needed to fight off someone else's navy which is edging ever closer to their shores

In all cases I am assuming that all my land-based assets will be taken out by silo launches, though I should be able to protect my silos from subs and bombers long enough for them to launch most if not all of their nukes.

Really, the question is this: is it wise to 'waste' 6 nukes to take out an airbase before you have taken out the silos around it?

(answers on a postcard....)

If you are by yourself I say go for silos.

You can't knock out their populations on your own, but if you can make a few people look real weak and inviting you might fracture the alliance.

I'm mostly with Feud - to deflect attention from yourself, neutralise silos. But don't do this if the person you're shooting at is close enough to be part of your air defence (e.g. EU <-> Russia and SA to NA. In that case, take out their airbases (surely thats 5 nukes per airbase ;) - or even silo nuke their fleets!) to degrade their offensive capability. Another option is to do a weak launch on your neighbours silos so that each silos only takes 1 or 2 hits. This will weaken their offensive capability without degading your shared air defence - and it may also make them a little more attractive to others knowing that their silos are weakened.

But inho, if you are forced to do 6 nukes per facility in Diplo, it's all too late! Threaten a neigbour that you'll suicide nuke his infrastructure unless he joins your alliance. Then do the same to another neighbour. With any luck you'll be back on a 3v3 footing - and then you can backstab your neighbours with 3 nukes per facility ;)

Trust no one, and change your name regularly! Cheers, Tripper

But I like 1v5's, they get the blood pumping  . And besides, I'm thinking that without fighter replenishment, a navy can only get weaker and weaker - and without airbases, a territory is more vulnerable to late sub launches (no land based bombers available to patrol the coasts).

I change my name every time I play, and Solanum usually asks folks where they're from. My reply is always: Liechtenstein - that's how he knows me :D
