A little light strategy

Postby Tripper » Fri Mar 07, 2008 1:09 pm

Well while I'm waiting for Walrus47 to kick off the TWG, here's a trick that I noticed while playing 6p (which I have surprisingly discovered I can win, although only play rarely)

The triple alliance stab

If you ever find yourselves in a three-player alliance, a well-timed stab can demolish both other players in the alliance. First, you should set up an alliance with two players who are close neighbours e.g. EU and Russia, or Africa and Asia, or even NA and SA. Secondly, you should make sure that your naval assets are well away from any of your allies, or that you have maximum defensive posture engaged.

Then, prepare a short-range backstab on the ally closest to you. Ideally this should be bombers switching to target his silos, but can even be naval nuking his carriers, or a sub launch on silos at a pinch. At the same time, request to kick the player you are stabbing. This I believe is the key, because it will distract the third player in the alliance and when the stabee asks to kick you, he's unlikely to respond to the second request in time (or even to agree). Now, the stabee has no option but to drop from the alliance to defend himself. At that point his forces will automatically engage your other estwhile ally, thus degrading both players, while your forces are either out of the way or fully ready to defend themselves.

Net gain - two "allies" distracted / weakened at little cost to you.

Moral to the story - be very careful when joining a triple alliance!

Cheers, Tripper
