Don't ever worry about setting the speed to low. You don't want to annoy everyone, but any player worth their salt realizes that somethings just take time and will be accommodating.

Or of course, they decide that something big's on its way and take countermeasures.

Nothing annoys me more than people yelling SPEEEED SPEEEED SPEEEED

Mind you, I seem to be notorious as a slow micromanager. Just stay on speed 1 til you're happy that all your fleets and planes are doing what they should be.

Possible comebacks to people yelling SPEEED :

- Setting up is what Defcon 4 is for
- Launching bombers is what Defcon 3 is for
- Launching nukes is what Defcon 1 is for
- Hang on, microing
- Sorry, trying to shoot down all your bombers
- Not my fault you don't have any units left to micro
- Just a minute, trying to launch 120 nukes here
- I'd have finished microing by now if you weren't pestering me
etc etc!

Cheers, Tripper

Speaking about setting up in Defcon 4, isn't Defcon 5 a good time to set up your fleets and get them going while there's time? Certainly subs need the extra time to get to where you want them. Or is Defcon 4 good mainly for setting up your land units?

That's true if you want your subs to penetrate as far as possible as fast as possible. It's also good if you want to send a scout (sacrificial) battleship or carrier deep into enemy territory.

But in my opinion there's a greater advantage in placing the bulk your fleet once you get intel back from radar in Defcon 4. In a 1v1 there's not usually a rush. And in 6p what you usually want to do is keep your fleet as safe as possible to preserve your nuking ability.

Hope this helps, cheers, Tripper
