Could also hide subs (as well as they can hide in active sonar) between the battleships. Hide more subs above and below in passive to give the impression of less numbers.

Naval superiority is supposed to come first.

A pinging sub that close to carriers would quickly get anti-subbed, passive subs as well if the person with the carriers was smart enough to do a basic sweep of the surrounding area.

I'd hope that even with all subs in passive going through that the owner of that many carriers in a row would have the presence of mind to have at least several in anti-sub mode.
