Tip For Newbs: Don't Place Airbases Close To Bomber Targets

Postby Greenmonkey824 » Wed Oct 04, 2006 1:50 am

I recently found out the hard way that it takes bombers about 2 or 3 minutes to arm their nuke after being launched. So I often found them getting shot down when bombing silos that were very close to the airbases.

Place airbases during DEFCON 4, once you know where the silos are.

seeing as you cant use planes till defcon 3 you dont know where their silos are.

also, I thought you had to place all your stuff before defcon 4?

Waiting until radar is up in Defcon 4 to place airbases is an answer to the OP's statement.

The tutorials say that you can't place things in Defcon 4, but everywhere else I have seen says that Defcon 3 is the cutoff.

Defcon 3 is definately the cutoff for placing units. You want to place your airbases close enough to be out of AA range, but close enough to allow fighter support at sea or fighter scouting. If you're worrieda bout bombers not having enough time to arm before entering enemy airspace, send them out at a 90 degree angle. If you then order a SRBM attack but don't designate a target, the missile will arm and then be launched immdiately when you select a target.

That's the Beam Attack! (see http://forums.introversion.co.uk/defcon/viewtopic.php?t=2038&highlight=)

Good tactic :)
