The Beam Attack

Postby ander75it » Sun Oct 01, 2006 11:00 pm

Well, it's just an idea I had playing as Europe against an AI Russia (the other 4 AI players weren't much active against me). Because Europe has precious little space, when you launch bombers at a target they are often out of your territory and in harm's way well before firing, due to the 240s countdown. So what I do now is what I am calling "The Beam Attack" (military historians should know about "The Beam Defense" or Thach Wave):

1) When DEFCON 2 hits, I flush ALL the bombers with a route 90° off their intended target(s) (usually toward the Pole if Europe) and wait until all the bombers have launched;
2) I launch against the targets, usually two Russian silos at the border and one African silo near Cairo, the AI usually defends like this.

With this 90° approach, launches are not simultaneous bat fairly close, and almost always far enough from enemy defenses to ensure bomber survival.
Just an idea I thought I'd share, works VERY well against the AI, looking forward to testing it against humans :)

i do a simular tactic to move bombers from one airbase/carrier to another. It's quite a good idea! (and people thing europe is easy to play!)[/b]

I think that Europe is easy to defend, but hard to attack from. Enemy silos fire at aircrafts that are still over my territory! Plus, all the nukes arcing over Europe make it a little hard to be in an alliance ;)
Returning to the Beam Attack, I want to test it in a human game, yesterday evening I had a nice one, but as I was SAm with no AF or NA player, and EU was allied with me, bombers didn't get much of a shot. They obliterated the SAs fleet, though :)

If you are up for a game tonight, I'll be glad to have a EUR vs URSS match with you just for showing the technique.

I mean tonight Rome time

I think we have the same time zone. Feel free to contact me whenever you like, I will always respond if available.

You know, it's kinda weird to think that a few years ago our countries were in a real shooting war. It's much much better that we can play *this* (DEFCON) kind of war, I think. :)

See you around!

Well, it wasn't a real war, it was Europe vs Serbia, we were just defending, and the Europe is imba so we lost ;)

Luckily, no nukes were fired

I'll contact you, see ya :)

interesting concept, one that I have look right at but did not pick up on it. However I have been doing somthing simular. by placing my airfiends in a position so that I will luanch the furthest one away then the next closest one .. on and on. By doing it in this order I get the same results of all bombers hiting at the same time.

Sending anythign less then 10 bombers to a defended country will yeild little or no results.

It depends on which country... For example, AI Africa almost always has a radar next to Tripoli which is little or not defended, and taking it out is very useful, and can be done with a coupla nukes. But, I agree that if you are dealing with a human player or want to paly serious, less than 10 bombers isn't very useful. Asia yesterday eve used about ten bombers versus me as SAm, and just got a minor Mexican city despite almost no fighter opposition, due to the extreme range which disallowed simultaneous launches.

I did a similar thing this afternoon, i launched my bombers once defcon 3 hit, i was europe and someone else was north america. I fleet the bombers into the extreme north of canada then launched nukes from 2 silos at the border with russia so i had 4 silos to defend any counter. The stream of bombers and ICBM's plus some from my carriers meant north america had the population of luxumburg once the dust settled.

Hmm...never heard of those terms before and I do read a lot of military history. I did an internet search and came up empty. Could you explain these terms? :?:
