Yeah, you can use bombers (carrier and airbase) to attack during DEFCON 2 I think.

To clear things up,

You can only destroy buildings with nukes, and you can only launch nukes in Defcon 1.

Bombers can be launched in Defcon 3, but they can only be in naval combat mode.

Doesn't even give me the option for that at DEFCON 3.

You cannot have a bomber attack a land-based target in DEFCON 3, thus it's not giving you the option.

However, bombers use their conventional weapons to great effect against naval targets like carriers and battleships.

Actually, I've seen bombers destroy Radar sites before DEFCON 1.

I've definitely lost radar sites before defcon 1, I guessed it was bombers in naval mode, annoying as hell :(

Ok here's how it goes:

u can use your bombers in DEFCON 3; however what they drop to destroy buildings and cities are NUKES and therefore can only be used in SRBM mode during DEFCON 1.

The reason you occasionally lose buildings (usually radars) before DEFCON 1 is this: When enemy planes fly over your land, there is a possibility that if and when they are destroyed by Anti-Air Silos and they are flying directly over a radar, they "crash" into the radar destroying it. Ive seen this happen before when i was scouting a friends land in Africa and my fighter was shot down while directly on top of his radar; it destroyed both my plane and his radar: a very satisfying and hilarious occurrence.

That's what I think causes the 'collaterral damage' point loss. Last night I was trying to bomb Mexico, but the nuke got intercepted just in time. It still caused 0.9 million casualties, though!
