If you would like to try out our testing patches and are Steam user, please check back to this topic regularly because we will edit it with the most current information (like what the password is).

In order to access the latest "beta" Uplink, do the following steps:
1. Exit Steam if it is running (right click on the tray icon, Exit).
2. Windows|Run

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steam.exe" -beta TODAYSPASSWORD
or

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" -beta TODAYSPASSWORD
if you are running Windows x64.
3. Run Uplink (you may need to update manually if you have explicitly configured it not to update automatically).

Please post any successes or problems that you have in the Bug Reports forum.

Your feedback is invaluable to us, please don't hesitate to give it!

The path should be something more like this.

C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\steam.exe

Dont forget the Valve

That's odd, mine doesn't have a valve and I used the default directory. Did you install steam off the net or from a physical copy of HL2? Mine was from the net.

Older versions of Steam used C:\Program Files\Steam as the default install directory, but in later versions that was changed to C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam; I have an older install from a few years ago on another computer that uses the shorter path, but my newer one on this computer uses the longer path. Both were the downloadable version of Steam.

The patch has fixed the problems I was having -
WinXP SP2, Audigy 2ZS with Jan 06 drivers.

Thankyou!

EDIT-Spoke too soon. Whilst using the beta, the game crashed five minutes into a new game, whilst I was doing some "find and delete" missions.

Bug: Running steam with the "-beta uplink0911" option breaks the Half-Life High Definition pack for that account. (That would be this thing -> http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... did=330176)

More details: Restarting steam with that option was bookended by playing a Half-Life mod using the HD models, and it broke on the restart. Since I restart steam before every playsession, it's unlikely that the latest steam/HDpack/Half-Life patch came in at the same time. I have tested this account on two systems so far, and the pattern seems to indicate that it's an an account-related issue.

Steam seems to insist on being run with the -beta uplink0911 option every time.
If I don't use that option, it rolls back to version 1.46.

This is somewhat annoying...

Just copy your Steam shortcut, and modify the copy to always run with '-beta TODAYSPASSWORD'.
